About Maya
I have a B.A. in premedical sciences, psychology and writing. As well as a 32 year state career that included being the official proofreader and grammarian for the Department of Ecology and 20 years as a computer programmer for the Department of Labor and Industries, I have also spent the last nearly six years as a columnist and copy editor for iPinionSyndicate.com. Reading and writing -- technical, opinion, nonfiction and fiction -- are lifelong passions that I would love to share.

As the daughter and granddaughter of two generations of anthropology professors, teaching is in my blood. My teaching style is somewhat unstructured as it is tailored to each student -- pace, approach, topics -- because each student is utterly unique. What is perfect for one student may be difficult for another, as I learned while teaching children Hebrew at the local synagogue. As long as I know the student's goals and time frame, my students will know all that and more and have a blast in the process. Laughter is one of the most important elements of learning.
