About Maya
I have been playing/studying drumming for about 14 years, and have been playing professionally for 6 years. Some of my credits include Halsey, Cher, Quadeca, Binki, Max Fry, Sarah Kinsley, and Brynn Cartelli. I was also a guest drummer for the Late Night at Seth Meyers 8g House Band. Throughout my career so far, I have been involved in multiple tours as well as TV performances/recordings. I am someone who is unendingly excited by the art of drumming as well as all types of music and the arts in general. I have also studied myself with a wealth of iconic drummers, such as jazz legends Billy Drummond, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Lewis Nash. I am a very organized individual, who will come with fully prepared lessons and, of course, positive vibes, as I am always excited to share my love of drumming and music!

I have a very personal approach to teaching, which is uniquely tailored to each student's level and goals. I find it very important to listen to each student's goals/issues when it comes to their playing, and tailor their lessons towards achieving those goals. I can teach students from beginning to advanced. I generally emphasize the importance of rudiments and stick technique to start with (something which I still incorporate into my personal practice schedule to this day). I have recommended technique and genre-based books that we can work through, as well as exercises that I have developed myself, which can help students improve in areas such as vocabulary, stick technique/mobility around the drum kit, groove, flow, and feel. My favorite part about the drums is its ability to be a conduit for language--I want to help my students speak through their drums as they would in conversation--that's when it really starts to get fun!
