About Marlowe
I have been a musician for 19 years, having worked in a wide variety of roles and genres. I have played as a guitarist, vocalist, drummer, and bassist (as well as some other performance roles here and there when necessary). I also have a 17 year history with recording, having worked as a mixing engineer and runner in studios ranging from basement lo-fi rigs to multi-million dollar control rooms. In my spare time, I record, play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends, and read!

My name is Marlowe, and I'm thrilled to help you on your creative journey! I've been playing guitar for 19 years, and have taught for 15 of them. I graduated with a BA in music and computer science in 2016, and have worked with a variety of genres including, jazz, punk, metal, indie rock, folk, country, electronica, experimental, and more! I cover a wide array of topics in my lessons including theory, performance, composition, and recording. Whatever stage of the creative process you're in, I want to be of assistance.
My lessons are structured to immerse the students in their favorite music. Not only will we be going over basic performance techniques (the Hal Leonard method is a classic, and a good jumping off point), but we'd be investigating WHY our favorite songs work, how we can adapt those theoretical and practical lessons to future compositions or performances, and how we can use these tools collaboratively through improvisational jam techniques.
In a typical lesson, we would spend a few minutes warming up with exercises, then discuss the challenges of performing a song we've been working on, learn what we can about that song theoretically, and then use those techniques in a custom jam session with an assigned set of criteria, allowing us to use those new techniques! I want my students to not only learn what makes their favorite musicians great, I want them to find their own brand of greatness as well. I'm happy to work with any level, from complete novice to experienced player!
