About Jess
I am a professional freelance Creative, which is the umbrella term I use for a multi-faceted career: I am an Actor and Musical Director for theatre, and have travelled the world with my work. I am a singer and front woman for a band, I am a multi-instrumentalist and Folk Singer-Songwriter (about to release my debut EP!) and, as a constant alongside all of my creative work, I am a Music, Singing and Acting tutor. I am deeply passionate about people receiving excellent 121 tuition, understanding how deeply frustrating it can be to not have access to these vital creative outlets. I believe music and creativity is for everyone, whether you want to become a professional, or simply want to be able to play a bit of music on a Sunday afternoon to relax. I care deeply about my students, wanting them to excel and find the joy and pleasure in creativity that I do!

My number one priority is that you ENJOY learning music! We'll work hard, but also have a lot of fun doing it. I am flexible in the way I work, adapting to the needs of every student. If you want to take grades, we can do that. If you want to just learn how to read music, we can do that. If you want to just learn how to jam with others... that's fine too! I use games and laughter to teach, whatever age you are - who says adults don't need a bit of fun and competition too?! Lessons will include: -Improv -Scales and fundamental technique -Music reading -Chord Charts -Sight reading technique -Music theory in practice -Learning by ear -Singing and playing (if that's what you would like) In terms of exams, I use ABRSM but am happy to consider other boards. I do not just plough through exam after exam, but believe it's important to develop a whole host of musical skills that may not fall into the exam syllabus ie improv, learning by ear, playing music out of our comfort zone, practising playing for people to sing to etc etc I regularly teach in person, but am also happy to teach online - the pandemic proved that this was just as effective, and I have spent the last 3 years developing a techniques to make this an equally enjoyable and productive way of learning.
