About James
Hi there, my name is James and I’m a tuba player and brass tutor living in Chorlton, Manchester. Junior Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music for the 2022-23 academic year, I’ve been working as a freelance musician for the last several years and have accumulated a wealth of practical and academic knowledge that I can now pass onto you! I welcome all ages and levels of experience, and look forward to helping you achieve your potential!

I have several years of teaching experience in a variety of different circumstances, from individual beginner tuition, to leading workshops of school children, and conducting ensembles. I’ve taught all ages, absolute beginners, and advanced students so will be comfortable helping you whatever your background in music.
Music is a language, so I like to use a combination of aural learning along with written notation in my teaching. I try to make sure my lessons are always enjoyable and create a learning process that is is engaging and rewarding, not a chore.
I teach my students a strong technical understanding of the instrument and continually develop their musicianship skills, while always constantly tailoring my approach to suit the individual pupil. Whether you’re wanting to take ABRSM exams, or help relearning your childhood instrument, please don’t hesitate to contact me for a consultation lesson and we’ll take it from there!
I prefer to teach in my large teaching area at home, with plenty of chairs for parents to watch should you wish, but would also be able to travel within Greater Manchester.
