The best personal and work relationships are built on trust and shared goals. I have been offering the same level of reliability and results as the most prestigious brick-and-mortar tuition centres in Australia for several years. I continuously invest in my skills as tutor, coach and mentor and own a personal library with well over a hundred books on teaching, education, Mathematics, Psychology, the brain, memory, academic writing, success, personal growth and related topics.

* 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲! *

With great passion for Mathematics and Education, and coming from a family of Engineers and Teachers, I combine the best of both worlds to provide the best explanations, strategies and overall educational support. The objective with all my students is to help them progress rapidly and improve their results consistently; increases of 20-30% within the first few weeks are not uncommon among them. *𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀' 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗬 𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬*. With over 14 years of experience and over 800 1-on-1 past students, I am very confident with different attitudes and learning styles, and not only explain the topics in a fully comprehensible, tried-and-tested step-by-step way, but make sure discipline, focus, self-assurance and work ethic improve as well.

* 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 *

My approach goes well beyond tutoring, I coach and mentor my students paying close attention to all aspects of their education and personal growth (study material, motivation, habits) so they become consistently more accomplishment-minded. Beyond subject content, thorough assessment and constructive feedback of study and personal habits are provided continuously, lesson by lesson, with strong emphasis on discipline, focus, hard work and self confidence, so they improve in Math and their other subjects too, a decisive factor particularly in years 11 and 12.

Furthermore, I do understand the economic and time investment involved, and offer a completely personalised study plan tailored to the student's needs. Regular 2-hour weekly lessons result in at least a consistent B plus, and in most instances A. Having lived in five continents (North and South America, Europe, Oceania and Asia), work experience in telecom and mining companies and postgraduate studies in the UK and USA allow me to offer a more well-rounded educational experience.

* 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 *
* I am deeply committed to unlocking each student's potential. I greatly value your trust and work to ensure both students and parents are delighted with the outcomes.
* Study habits, time management, stress management, goal setting, and exam technique are assessed from the outset. These skills are essential in Math and across all subjects.
* As I teach intensively year-round (typically working with 25–50+ one-on-one students weekly), I have a strong understanding of the most tested topics and question types and make sure to prioritise them.
* All questions are encouraged, and every student is treated with patience, high expectations, encouragement, and respect.
* Students are continuously encouraged to reach higher proficiency levels. As soon as they demonstrate confidence, we move on to more advanced material. Rapid and sustained improvements are common.
* Alongside academic achievement, strong emphasis on confidence, enjoyment of the learning process, and appreciating how simple yet very beautiful and rewarding Math can be!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Some of my earliest memories are about counting, sketching and noticing / looking for patterns and shapes as a preschooler, then practicing Math for long hours in primary and high school, especially during Math competition season and then at uni, which was very strict and demanding, with an amount of study needed to achieve good grades nothing short of exceptional (admission rate was around 5% to start with). Later on, having completed one bachelor and two master degrees, and with experience in various fields and industries, I realised my core competency had always been Math. When I started tutoring, like most just casually, this realisation became more and more evident as students quickly improved and were happy to provide very positive feedback. Teaching seemed very easy to me from the start, and I loved the fact that I could directly help students and be a positive influence to them, especially the younger ones. I was very motivated to do my very best, and soon as demand for my work soared and with the support and encouragement from my wife, a very dedicated and highly regarded teacher at a top-ranked school, I made the choice to leave all other work and professionalise my comprehensive, specialised Math tutoring / coaching / mentoring services.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

As you probably know I specialise in Math education at all ages and academic levels. Quoting Carl Friedrich Gauss, one of the greatest mathematicians of all time, "Mathematics is the Queen of all sciences", it is also the backbone of STEM, and has a huge direct and indirect influence in our quality of life and all aspects of our existence. Everyone should have a strong foundation in Math as its practice has multiple benefits, among the most important strengthening our decision making, focus, determination, self control, discipline. Mental Math skills are very handy as well as they allow us to be in better control of our finances and overall daily decision making. Math provides a formidable work out for the brain, and once its mechanisms and main rules are clear, it is a great delight to play with. It is my purpose to help my students achieve their very best while at the same time enjoying and realising how valuable and beautiful Math is.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Thankfully I did have great role models in my educational journey, my father was a very capable, energetic and hard working engineer who got very far in his career as senior mining engineering manager, my first Math lessons were with him. Like him, I love Math, sports, languages and travel. My mother was a primary school teacher who always took a very special interest in our education, she taught me how to read at 4 years of age and a great deal of her teaching philosophy became my own. Like her, I love teaching, sketching and reading. My high school Math teacher was also a great influence, he was very young, easy going and charismatic, as well as very good at explaining Math, I always come back to his methods as they were so effective. The entire school loved him.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Being an outstanding educator requires multiple skills that go well beyond excellent subject knowledge. First and foremost is Care, we need to be empathic, to be able to put ourselves in the shoes of our students and feel their confidence and insecurities, their needs and goals as if they were ours, this allows us to be able to fine tune our approach and master its efficacy in real time regardless of student's personality or current skill base. Another key quality is having a very strong life-long commitment to personal improvement, to becoming the best, most genuine human being we can. This is essential to build sincere and rewarding personal and work relationships in the long run, to inspire trust and confidence in our actions and teachings. One more key attribute is being easy going and firm at the same time, so students feel at ease, comfortable with us and thus are willing to trust and listen to us. Creating an ongoing positive environment where students feel respected, taken care of and given the best education is vital to the long term success of an educator. There are many other important qualities, please contact me to communicate directly to find out how I can help you or your child excel in Math!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Thank you for asking, I have indeed plenty of anecdotes and would like to share with you one related to a year 9 young man who was my student a few years ago. His dad had reached out to me very concerned as his first son was getting Cs, Ds and Es, apparently stuck with these results. Upon starting with him and noticing his potential and ambitions (he wanted to reach the top ranks in the police force, coming from a long line of police officers in his family), I encouraged him to work daily on his Math, as frequently as possible, to believe in himself fiercely, and to search for help as much and as soon as needed. A term later he was in the B to A range, and by the end of the year he was virtually a straight A Math student. Quoting his dad: "What did you tell him!? He comes back from his lessons and just wants me to give him exercise after exercise and doesn't get tired at all!". Needless to say, his comment made my day. His son just deserved to have the chance to prove himself, and prove himself he did.

I have been fortunate to help dozens of other students achieve similar transformational results, this student's being among the most remarkable ones.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Mathematics is endless, and at its highest level full of intricacies and very abstract concepts, which tends to demoralise a great deal of students. However, school and first to second year university Math - what I teach the most - are reasonably straightforward for all of us to succeed at it, provided we have focus, a sound strategy, and work steadily. When they start lessons, a great deal of students think conquering Math is only for very intelligent people, whereas in reality it is the practice of Math which makes us more intelligent! One of my main challenges, and one that I take with great dedication, is to help students achieve total confidence in their capabilities and give themselves the chance to reach their full potential personally and professionally.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching Math has been my main focus for over 12 years now, I love helping my students become successful people in the greatest sense of the word, and I love my subject as well. Having said that, from an early age I developed multiple other interests, as I understood the value of being a well-rounded person. I have played multiple sports and worked out almost every day since being 12 years of age, and truly believe both physical and mental exercise are key to developing character and thus a strong foundation for our lives. Music is another ongoing passion of mine, and regularly play guitar, bass and sing to my little children. I am constantly reading as well, and especially enjoy Math, teaching, psychology, health, economics and business, technology, international travel and affairs, among others.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

Thank you once again for the opportunity to communicate about my experiences, ideas and philosophy about Math and teaching.

I genuinely believe that every person has capacity well beyond their dreams, and that we can all enjoy a life graced with high achievement and personal fulfilment. However, many times various circumstances get in the way, delaying or cluttering a person's path to greatness. It is my personal mission to help my students not just with their Math, but even more importantly to think and act like the very successful people they can rightfully be. To achieve this, I bring to the table the consistently very successful track record of a true industry veteran, having been continuously engaged as private educator since February 2012 (even before Superprof started!), with 600+ past and current students, and 20,000+ tutoring hours. I also work Monday to Sunday with an average of 50+ one-on-one students per week for most of the year (January to November), which results in more total experience and also more fresh weekly experience than virtually anybody else in Australia and elsewhere. I bring passion for teaching and for Math, as well as a strong determination to get the best out of every student who chooses my educational services. My approach is very long term, as mentioned bringing as much value as possible lesson by lesson, which translates into a very high retention rate, with my longest staying student having lessons for over 8 years. My students' top yearly results beat most of Australia's most prestigious schools year by year as well. You can rest assured your (child's) education will be very well taken care of.
