About Precious
Hi there, I am a dedicated academic who is deeply passionate about helping young learners bridge the gap between reading words and truly understanding them. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and am currently expanding my expertise by pursuing my BA Honours degree in English. My academic journey gives me a unique dual perspective as an educator. My background in psychology means I have an understanding of how young minds process information, retain memory, and manage academic stress. Combined with my advanced postgraduate training in English, I am highly equipped to break down the mechanics of language and literature in a way that makes sense to growing minds. While my teaching experience includes informal tutoring, I have always approached every student with the highest level of professionalism, structure, and care. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I pride myself on being adaptable, patient, and relatable. As someone fluent in multiple local languages, I know exactly how to guide students who use English as a second language, ensuring they feel confident, supported, and capable of acing their exams.

As a BA Psychology graduate currently completing my BA Honours in English, I focus strictly on helping primary and high school students (Grades 5–12) master the most technical parts of their curriculum: Language, Comprehension, and Literature (Paper 1 and Paper 2). Please note: I do not tutor essay writing or creative writing (Paper 3)
My approach combines cognitive psychology with highly active recall. Because I understand how young brains anchor information, I do not believe in lecturing from textbooks. Instead, I use a high-example methodology. Complex rules of grammar, language structures, poetry, and book analysis are only fully understood when a student can anchor them to real-world visual examples. I alter my style depending on the learner; I keep it light and fun for primary schoolers, but switch to a structured, formal exam-drill approach for high school matric preparation.
What to Expect in a Typical Lesson:
Every single lesson is highly interactive and focused entirely on the practical skills needed to pass school exams:
1. The Check-In & Recall: We start with targeted, fast-paced questions to test prior rules we learned.
2. Concept Breakdown: We unpack difficult comprehension strategies, summary rules, language cartoons, or literature summaries using clear visual anchors.
3. Live Paper Drills: We work directly through past Paper 1 or Paper 2 questions together to build speed and accuracy.
4. The Blueprint Challenge: I am a firm believer that language skills require independent practice. Every lesson ends with a small, actionable "take-home" task to maintain momentum outside of class time.
My lessons are tightly structured for:
- Primary School Learners (Grades 5–7): Building early reading comprehension, expanding vocabulary, and solidifying baseline language rules.
- High School Students (Grades 8–12 / CAPS & IEB): Deep-dive text analysis, contextual questioning, poetry structures, and full Paper 1 and 2 preparation.
Lessons are delivered strictly with English as the dominant language of instruction and assessment. However, I understand that language learning can be daunting. To ensure absolute clarity, lessons can be tailored to the student's needs by incorporating home languages like isiZulu, Sesotho, or Setswana for explanations if they are struggling to grasp a specific concept. If you want to stop guessing what comprehension questions mean and start confidently analysing your setwork books, I've got your back.
