About Louise
I am a qualified English teacher based in the North EasT. Additionally, I am also currently studying an English Literature MA. I’ve taught in several schools across the Newcastle and Gateshead area. At my last school, students wanted me to stay so much they suggested I hid in the book cupboard and jumped out to teach whenever they had English! Unfortunately, I had to decline this offer!
I know English is often a subject that people find difficult and overwhelming; it doesn’t to be that way! We can work together to get you to a point where you not only no longer fear English, but you feel confident and able in your skills.

I adore English and I think you can too! The subject is ultimately about communication and it teaches you essential life skills. Success in English means you become a critical thinker, a thoughtful communicator and an effective motivator.
Sessions can be fully tailored to your needs with a personalised focus on any particular areas of weakness. If you are unsure as to what it is you find more difficult, we can do an initial assessment session to figure that together. I am all about a collaborative, open approach where you feel empowered to engage with your learning.
Typical lesson length is from 45-60 minutes. A typical lesson will take the following 5-part structure:
- An initial discussion of our learning goals for the session
- Initial teacher input explaining new skills/concepts. This may also include videos and other presentations.
- Activities designed to practise the new skill/engage with the concept with my assistance
- An independence task that I will mark and use to inform the next tutoring session
I specialise in Secondary English ages 11-16. I am also available for KS2 and KS5 tutoring on a case by case basis.
