About Senay
Hi! I’m a qualified and experienced secondary English teacher specialising in GCSE English Language, GCSE English Literature, KS3 English, and Functional Skills English (Levels 1 and 2).
As a practising classroom teacher, I work with students of varying abilities every day, including those who need confidence-building, targeted intervention, exam preparation, or support overcoming barriers to learning. This gives me a strong understanding of the current curriculum, exam expectations, and the strategies that genuinely help students make measurable progress.
I know that English can feel overwhelming for many learners, particularly when confidence has been affected by previous experiences. My approach is calm, supportive, and highly structured, creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing in confidence.
I take pride in delivering professional, well-planned lessons that are tailored to each learner’s individual needs, whether that means strengthening reading comprehension, improving analytical writing, developing exam technique, or building core literacy skills. My teaching combines clear explanations, modelling, guided practice, retrieval strategies, and regular feedback to ensure progress is both visible and sustainable.
I work with KS3 students, GCSE learners, Functional Skills students, and adult learners returning to education, always adapting my teaching style to suit the individual. As a qualified secondary English teacher with classroom experience teaching GCSE English Language, GCSE English Literature, KS3 / KS4 English, and Functional Skills English (Levels 1 and 2), I tailor every lesson to the individual learner’s needs, confidence level, and goals.
My teaching approach is supportive, structured, and focused on building both skills and self-belief. I break learning into manageable steps, using clear modelling, guided practice, retrieval techniques, and exam-focused strategies to help students make steady progress without feeling overwhelmed. I adapt my methods depending on the learner, as some students benefit from visual scaffolds and worked examples, while others need discussion-based learning, repetition, or confidence-building through smaller achievable tasks.
For exam students, I focus heavily on exam technique, question breakdown, timing strategies, vocabulary development, analytical writing, reading comprehension, and understanding exactly what examiners are looking for. For Functional Skills learners, I use practical, accessible teaching methods that make English relevant and manageable, especially for learners who may have struggled with the subject previously.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, though longer sessions can be arranged if needed, particularly closer to exams.
