About Shirou
With over 10 years of tutoring experience, a PGCert in Medical Education with Distinction, and experience as a UK-qualified Medical Doctor, I teach students across a range of ages and abilities. This includes younger students in primary school looking to build confidence and strengthen their academic foundations, as well as older students preparing for important examinations and competitive university applications. Please see below for a list of the subjects and school stages I teach.
I specialize in the British Curriculum, but I am also familiar with the IB Curriculum. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves, while developing the knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their full potential.
My approach to teaching is personalized, supportive and focused on helping students genuinely understand a subject rather than simply memorizing content. I typically begin by developing a strong understanding of the core concepts through clear, structured and step-by-step explanations. We then apply this knowledge to a variety of questions and scenarios, before consolidating learning through exam-style questions that gradually increase in difficulty. This approach helps students build not only their knowledge, but also their confidence and ability to apply what they have learned independently.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. I adapt my teaching style to their strengths, areas for development and preferred way of learning, ensuring that lessons are both effective and engaging. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student's age and individual needs.

Shirou has been teaching my daughter Maths and Science for almost two years, and we are delighted with the progress she has made. She has really taken the time to understand how she learns best and identified the areas where she needed extra support.
Her lessons are engaging, encouraging and well suited to her needs. She explains things clearly and is patient when she finds a topic difficult. Over time, my daughter has become a far more confident and independent learner who now looks forward to her lessons with Shirou.Shirou has been amazing! Her professionalism and kindness is exactly what our teen needed. Our very anxious girl has actually been looking forward to her lessons and is feeling more and more confident about her upcoming exams. Shirou is simply 10 out of 10!
Shirou tutored my daughter in International Baccalaureate (IB) Physics for two years, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is an exceptional teacher — knowledgeable, patient, reliable and genuinely invested in her students’ success.
Physics is a demanding subject, particularly at IB level, and Shirou has a real ability to explain difficult concepts clearly and make them understandable. Over the two years, she not only helped my daughter strengthen her knowledge and prepare for her exams, but also gave her confidence in the subject.
Shirou is also a wonderful person to work with: warm, encouraging, professional and extremely dependable. We feel very fortunate to have found her and I would recommend her without hesitation to any student or parent looking for an outstanding tutor.View more recommendations
