About Leke

As a trained Literacy and Humanities subject leader and former LSA, my tailored IEP (Individual Educational Plan) ensures a consistent track of progress via regular consolidation. An end of year report also creates a continuous flow for your child’s learning, leading up to the next academic year. Both students and parents/carers are equally informed about the end of year progress and next steps. It always gives me immense joy to share my knowledge and deepen one’s understanding in the process.

Teaching should be fun, innovative, collaborative and rigorous! As a qualified class teacher, my decade of mainstream and private tuition experiences have equipped me with indispensable values and core teaching strategies, suitable for all types of learners. My journey into teaching started in 2011 after completing my degree in Mass Communications from the Uni. Hertfordshire. Upon the completion of my degree, I had the opportunity to hold workshops in Germany teaching and inspiring youth from various walks of life. As I returned from Germany, I realised that the gratification I received from being able to help individuals, was transferable to the youth within my hometown. This road officially began being a teaching assistant for two years, acquiring my first classroom experience. Within this role, I perceived the importance of supporting both teachers and students according to their diverse needs. As I found my feet as a TA, I felt the importance of stretching myself. From December 2011, I had shown interest in teaching and was quickly trained as a Read Write Inc. teacher across Key Stage 1. As I became accustomed to this, I acquired more responsibilities within the school. This included leading Music and Handwriting across the whole school. I was able to refine the current curriculum and make it more applicable to children that may have not felt the relatability and necessity of these subjects. This was very handy for me, as it also enabled me to develop relationships with the pupils; and experience whole class responsibility. The job has entailed various situations that have required diffusing issues. Through the years of teaching, I’ve garnered CPD training and additional qualifications to help advance my skillsets. Various Safeguarding training sessions have been amongst the most memorable sessions. This CPD-accredited course gave adequate support to ensure that measures were put in place. The CEOP ThinkUKnow training course helped me gain required skills to act appropriately; and confidently protect children and young people I work with to be well informed about internet safety. It developed my knowledge on how children and young people use the internet. Through this training, I acquired wisdom on how to help keep them safe from abuse. This joint initiative between the NSPCC and CEOP, was aimed at any professional working directly with children and young people. Before judging where the individual stands in their attainment, I always commence asking them to jot down where they feel confident within the subject and openly sharing where they don’t feel so confident and would like to improve in. This helps to create an atmosphere of honesty from the very beginning, as I believe that confidence and self-belief is a key ingredient to successful tutoring. Moving on, to help inform the child’s current level, I issue a pre-made test on diverse topics within the subject to gauge their current status. To give a flow of what the student will learn, a medium term plan will be tailored.
