About Catherine
Hi! My name is Cat and I've been teaching Geography for 8 years. I am mum to a two-year-old boy, and have a cat called Buzz. I genuinely love my subject, because it is so dynamic - it is always changing, in terms of current events, population, etc. As a person I am very friendly, patient and enthusiastic. I get to know you and how you work to enable me to get the best out of you. I am here to support you in gaining confidence as well as knowledge.

I use a range of techniques to support learning: a typical session might start with some questioning to establish your knowledge base, some new learning, and then embedding that new learning, whether that is through exam questions, spoken dialogue or other means. The best thing about the lesson is that it is tailored specifically for you and your needs, not the broad needs of 30 students! I am confident working with students with SEN, allowing processing time and being flexible to switch things up when the need arises. Equally, I pride myself on outstanding subject knowledge, and with strong understanding of how to answer exam questions, am able to support both those aiming for 8s/9s, as well as those looking to boost their current attainment at any level. Having taught the GCSE AQA curriculum for 8 years, I am very familiar with the course content which will allow me to personally tailor each lesson towards the units and case studies you are studying. If you need fieldwork help, this can be discussed. I can also teach KS3 Geography, from physical topics like Coasts and Tectonics, to human topics such as Population and Development. At A-Level I have tended to specialise in the physical units - Coasts, Tectonics, Water and Carbon Cycles, with many students gaining the top grades. I have led on fieldwork and coursework so am able to assist with the NEA (Independent Investigation) within guidelines.
