About Lee
I am an award-winning playwright ('Molly' ★★★★ Winner of The Stage Award) and teacher with 10+ years experience of working with writers and students to develop their own plays from initial idea through to first full-length draft, ensuring their plays are ready for submission to theatres, festivals and playwriting competitions. Playwrights I have tutored and supported have gone onto see their work staged at Stratford East Theatre, Soho Theatre, Sherman Theatre, Bush Theatre, Old Red Lion Theatre and VAULT Festival.
I have produced original work with New Diorama Theatre, The Pleasance, Camden People’s Theatre, Old Red Lion, The Cockpit Theatre and Charing Cross Theatre, won The Stage Award in 2015 for my play "Molly" and have 10+ years experience in dramaturgy and script development. My collected plays and theatre-making toolkit, 'Three Plays by Squint and How They Were Made', is published with Bloomsbury.
As Literary Associate with award-winning theatre company, Squint, I have extensive experience when it comes leading on the development of new plays, mentoring writers through the writing and redrafting process and delivering workshops and masterclasses to new and early-career writers. In 2023, I led The Squint Playwriting Award programme in partnership with Stratford East Theatre and Hackney Empire, supporting ten new writers to develop an original play, connecting them to professional opportunities and sharing industry knowledge.
I have worked with the Bush Theatre, Park Theatre and Finborough Theatre as a script-reader and led courses, workshops and masterclasses with Lyric Hammersmith, Arcola Theatre, The Mono Box, University of West London, Guildhall, Birkbeck University of London, Royal Welsh College of Music, Birkbeck University of London and Drama and Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama (US).

I design and lead thoughtful and inspiring playwriting sessions that are accessible, jargon free and - above all - rooted in the sharing of practical tools and techniques to help you embolden your voice and hone your craft as a playwright.
These sessions can be tailored to your specific needs. Are you toying with a great idea and need support in getting started with turning it into a play? Do you already have a script that you're seeking feedback on so you can take it to the next stage of development? Is there a specific topic or technique, or aspect of your play, that you want to improve? I can tailor our sessions to meet any or all of these requirements, and will work with you to ensure you get the most out of our time together.
With a Distinction in MA Text and Performance from RADA (2016-18), where I specialised in Playwriting and Dramaturgy, I can engage critically and intelligently with the intentions, themes and topics underpinning your script, while also mentoring you through the writing process, providing practical tools to help you sharpen your skills based on my own in-depth knowledge of playwriting techniques. I can also provide detailed, thoughtful and jargon-free feedback on your script, rooted in accessible and actionable writing exercises that will help you improve your play. Through this rigorous yet creative approach to teaching and learning, I can help you to unlock the core of your play's story and transform your initial idea into a full-length script.
I empower writers to connect with their voice and intentions, sharpen their storytelling skills and develop a confident grasp of how to use narrative structure, create rich dialogue and build compelling characters. I can offer:
- Mentorship across multiple session to guide you through every stage of the playwriting process, from exploring the first idea to submitting your first full-length draft.
- Provide detailed and practical feedback on a full-length draft of your script.
- Bespoke sessions focused on developing your knowledge and skills in specific areas of playwriting (e.g. plot, narrative structure, character, dialogue).
I have a track record of successfully supporting early-career playwrights in the development of their creative work, while also providing valuable insights into professional development through my extensive industry knowledge. In 2023, I led The Squint Playwriting Award in partnership with Stratford East and Hackney Empire Theatre, mentoring writers from low-income backgrounds towards a professionally produced industry showcase. I taught Theatre Studies at the University of West London (2018–2022), guiding student-led projects in dramaturgy, adaptation, devising, and theatre history. From 2016–2019, I led Arcola Theatre’s Writing for Stage programme, supporting early-career writers through workshops and rehearsed readings of their original plays.
My teaching is underpinned by professional practice and publication, including Three Plays by Squint and How They Were Made (Bloomsbury, 2023).

I had the pleasure of working with Lee as a dramaturg on my play Take Care as part of Squint Theatre’s Playwriting Awards. Lee was so generous with his time. He has such a wealth of knowledge around theatre, and his insights were so considered, always aiming to build the play into the best it could be. Couldn’t recommend more — one of the best.
