About Monica
Hello! I am your new tutor, nice to meet you! I am a Florida native English speaker and I have a BS in psychology. I speak, read and write Spanish fluently, as I learned it at a very young age. I started learning Italian later on during middle school, after connecting to my Italian roots on my first trip to Italy. I have tutored English and Spanish speakers in college as volunteer work, and I went on to complete a 140 hour Teach English as a Foreign Language certificate. I really enjoy traveling and exercising my language skills every chance I get. I believe it is a gift to be able to connect with people of different cultures from different places and have been able to do so through language. English and Spanish are universal languages and you can communicate with people across the globe with them. Let's get started!

I incorporate videos, songs, clips and props to help visual and auditory learners alike. In addition to beginner lessons including conjugations and basic greetings, I like to start with phrases and words used daily in the student's life. Repetition is key when learning a new language and putting your work to the test by forming basic sentences you can use every day is a good way to start learning and boost the students confidence. As a person who speaks 4 languages, I can attest to this "flooding" method working for myself and others around me. I would give my students new words to learn and conjugate and ask them to make sentences using the new words with the ones they already know. I like to challenge my students with memory games, frequent pop quizzes, etc. I have taught elementary to college aged students.
