About Louisa
I am a recent graduate from the University of St Andrews where I read modern history and international relations. I have always been a lover of the humanities, taking higher level English literature, history and global politics for the International Baccalaureate. For me, the joy of tutoring is being able to share my love for my subjects with others. From discussing current affairs to breaking downy favourite book, their is always something new to dissect and I so appreciate learning from my students as well as them learning from me. My gregarious nature means that building close professional relationships with my students comes naturally and I hope that this facilitates a safe and comfortable learning environment. Outside of academia my biggest passion in life is to travel, meet people and explore the varied cultures of our world.

I like my sessions to be primarily lead by the student. Once we identify together the topics which needed to be addressed, I format my lessons to go through content and exam technique whilst constantly urging the student to figure things out themselves with my support. In terms of structure, at the beginning I tend to outline what we aim to achieve in that given lesson. Then I give some context to the topic and explain the content before applying it to exam questions. I aim to have an open relationship with the student and at the end of every lesson they can tell me what they found useful and what they feel they would like to work on next time. This is however, just a general framework; one of the great joys of tutoring is its adaptability to maximise the gains for each particular client. Given this, my past lessons have each demonstrated an individual path for that particular student. Some examples include biweekly lessons to prepare for IB English literature exams, biweekly lessons aimed at improving the confidence of a bright 11 year old, weekly lessons supporting a 14 year old with school entrance exams and one off lessons offering support for coursework.
