About Patrick
I am a graduate of University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana where I received my Bachelor's degree in Math and Computer Science. I earned my Master's degree from the University of Colorado-Denver in Secondary Mathematics teaching. Before teaching, I worked at large corporations as a computer programmer and software companies in various roles (14+ years). I switched careers and taught math and computer science at the high school level (22 years).

My experience helping students tapping into relevance is most important. Get to know their likes/dislikes, hobbies, music, and create connections and analogies. The logical parts of the brain are natural and everybody can think logically. Mistakes are part of the process and success comes in many forms especially in math. A regular lesson plan includes a) what’s up & how is everything else going?, b) warmup/opener to retrieve past knowledge, c) review recent work and make any corrections (fix those mistakes), d) tackle new material, e) check to-do list and make action items for next time. What sets me apart from other tutors is my 14+ years experience in the IT and software world and my 22+ years teaching high school computer science and math from co-teaching with a special ed teacher to teaching Pre-Calculus Honors. My care, concern and hard work are hard to match.
