I am a 5-string clawhammer banjo player and acoustic guitarist, providing lessons in Guildford that focus on song backup, rhythm, and Bluegrass/Old Time tunes. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up your skills, I can tailor lessons to fit your needs. With over 14 years of experience as a recording artist and touring in the UK and US, I'm excited to share my knowledge and help you reach your musical goals while finding your own unique style.

I am dedicated to providing my banjo and guitar students with a personalised and engaging learning experience. I understand that each student is unique, so I adapt my teaching methods to match their individual learning styles and preferences. Patient and supportive, I create a nurturing environment where students can explore their musical abilities and strive for improvement. I encourage originality and urge students to discover their own musical voice and style. With a focus on helping students develop strong foundational skills, I empower them to effectively communicate their musical ideas. My ultimate goal is to assist them in achieving the sound they desire. Happy to travel 20 miles of Guildford in Surrey, Hampshire or Berkshire. Can also teach on Zoom remotely.

Perfect! Charlie is a great find! The banjo is a fun instrument and Charlie makes it fun, teaching with an easy (and easy to understand) style. Playing tunes from the get-go makes it all the more inspirational. Time flies. Such fun and being challenged leads to swift progress. Highly recommended.

Charlie is a great musician who also runs a bluegrass jam. I was not confident at all with my banjo and needed some help. Charlie mentioned that he does music lessons on the guitar and banjo, so I decided to give it a go. Charlie asked in advance if there was anything in particular that I wanted to learn or work on. He is extremely patient and listened to any issues that I brought up and came up with suggestions of how to improve my technique. Charlie is a likeable person with plenty of musical knowledge, he explains things in an easy to understand way. He pitches his tuition at an achievable level, while encouraging you to try more advanced skills. Charlie has a calm and gentle approach, which puts you at ease. He is a great teacher and a passionate and talented player.
Charlie is patient, calm, friendly and completely non-judgemental as well as being a talented musician. I would recommend Charlie to anyone.
