About Richard
I'm a professional Opera Singer (bass-baritone) and singing teacher currently based in Stroud, Gloucestershire. From 2019-2024, I was engaged by Hannover State Opera as a principal soloist, singing roles including Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Bottom (A Midsummer Night's Dream), and Escamillo (Carmen), among many others. Prior to that, I was a member of the International Opera Studio at Opernhaus Zürich, and the Salzburg YAP. I trained at the Royal Academy of Music, completing my bachelors and masters degrees and a diploma in opera over the course of 8 years. In 2022, I was conferred Associate Honours. I have a choral background, having worked as a Lay Clerk at Gloucester and Portsmouth Cathedrals, and I am regularly engaged as a concert soloist.

I teach all ages and levels from beginner to advanced. My focus is helping you to build a healthy, reliable, and secure vocal technique, as well as developing your performance skills and musicianship. My extensive experience and training has given me a wealth of knowledge and practical techniques to help with all aspects of singing, from understanding specific musical form, meaning and style, to improving breath efficiency and reducing tension. It's also important to me that you feel confident and I aim to support you in finding your own unique way to express yourself creatively. Whether you're looking for a regular teacher, or just need some new input in preparation for a concert, audition, competition, or role, I'd be very happy to help. I look forward to hearing from you!

Details
I teach from rooms in Stroud, Minchinhampton, and Gloucester and charge £45 per hour from these locations. If you'd like me to come to your home, I charge an extra £5. If you'd like an online lesson, I charge £40 per hour. I offer 5% off when you book 5 lessons, and 10% off when you book 10.
