With 24 years of teaching experience and 12 years as a journalist, I bring a high level of professionalism, dedication, and expertise to every tutoring session. I prioritize clear communication, respect, and personalized support to help students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. My approach is grounded in integrity and a genuine commitment to their success, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated to grow.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach emphasizes structured lesson plans, inquiry-driven exploration, and student engagement, using diverse methods like primary sources, project-based activities, and digital tools to make social studies meaningful and relevant. Lessons are tailored for middle school to undergraduate students, focusing on understanding global connections and developing critical thinking.

Teaching Methods and Techniques
I utilize methods like investigative scenarios, class discussions, interactive note-taking, role-playing, and incorporating technology (e.g., WebQuests). Each lesson begins with essential questions and leverages multimedia, authentic documents, and debate to encourage deep understanding and personal connections.

Typical Lesson Plan
A standard lesson features:

Clear objectives linked to curriculum standards.

Engaging introductory questions or scenarios to activate curiosity.

Direct instruction using diverse media, often including primary and secondary sources.

Collaborative activities (e.g., group analysis of sources, simulations).

Formative assessments (graphic organizers, brief quizzes, reflections) and summative tasks (projects, essays).

Differentiation and extensions for all learning levels.

What Sets Rich Apart
I brings 24 years of world history classroom expertise and 12 years as a journalist, integrating real-world reporting techniques and current events into lessons for maximum relevance. Lessons are designed not just to teach content, but to empower students to think like historians and journalists, building investigative skills and global awareness. Rich's approachable style and humor create a welcoming environment focused on growth and curiosity.

Lesson Audience
Middle school (especially 8th grade), high school, and college students interested in world history, social studies, civics, modern global issues, and journalism.

Curriculum is adaptable for honors, AP, and general education classes; includes support for differentiated learners.

Ideal for students seeking deeper understanding of history, practical skills for citizenship, or inspiration for writing and critical thought.

For lasting curiosity, critical thinking, and a fresh perspective on the world—choose Rich for tutoring sessions tailored to every learner.
