Lets have a look what I have in store for you.

First lecture:

+ First lecture is basically interaction with students on his knowledge and perception of the subject to be tutored, his expectations from me as a tutor, and what benefits could I offer in this process of learning. I call it "Expectation based tutoring" where the main focus is on student's way of learning and his expectations from me, so that my way of teaching is in synchronization with his study goals.

My Lecture Plan:

****** I always prefer a well planned lecture, which actually saves time and is way easier to understand. So usually, student needs to inform me a day before the class about what he wants to learn and his expectations from the lecture. you can email me, or text me on WhatsApp and I will give it my best shot.

Few points that may help both of us:

+Before starting the lecture, a brief overview of the outcomes expected from the tutoring session so that the student knows what is the value the lecture is going to add.
+Lecture is usually designed as a blend of various tutoring tools (mentioned below)
+Some expert tips (Written notes) and summary of noteworthy takeaways from the lecture at the end.
+ Most important : A feedback from student whether the outcomes expected from the tutoring session were met or not. This helps in reformulating the tutoring strategy for following sessions.
+ I share my research material at the end of every class with students from various websites and video lectures that will help student a lot with "beyond the books" knowledge.
+ If you have any doubt with the concepts taught in the lecture, call me anytime.

Tools used for learning:

+Real-world examples to relate the concepts to the daily life practices which helps students to practically relate the knowledge.
+Animated PowerPoint presentations to get a feel of story behind the concepts I tutor.
+Visualition: Believe me, it helps a lot. You will never forget the concepts.
+Written notes (main points to remember)
+Flow charts for "Problem solving". Proved to be a very effective method for numerical problems.

Home tutoring or Online tutoring:

+Prefer home tutoring at my place more than online tutoring. I find home tutoring extremely productive. But also equally comfortable with online teaching. Regardless of the way, end objective should be met and that is the primary goal.

Going an Extra Mile to help students:

Even if the resources I need to invest are overwhelming, I am always willing to go the extra mile to help students to the best of my ability. People who want to learn and explore beyond the pages of a book have my admiration.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

After graduating from high school, I began tutoring. I used to tutor several fellow high school kids (in a more friendlier manner) and always received positive feedback. That emotion of gratitude most likely contributed to my decision to pursue a career in academics. I'm about to finish my PhD and would like to work as a tutor at a university. Private tutoring assisted me with my finances during my PhD, and I am quite happy in my current position.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I tutor practically all of the fundamental Civil Engineering disciplines, but my favorites are Geotechnical Engineering, Water Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. Transportation Engineering is my area of specialization and PhD research. I enjoy Structural Engineering as well, but out of touch for the past 6 months. I'm not a big fan of Environmental engineering because I find it a boring subject. The opinion is very personal. I've previously tutored Environmental Engineering but didn't much love it.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I consider myself fortunate to have met some wonderful people during my high school years and after graduation. Their personalities aided me in comprehending how great academics is as a career option. These personalities have a big influence on my learning and tutoring style. I also enjoy some of the YouTube lecturers. They motivate you and help you in your development.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think a good tutor should know what his student expects from him. If you are well aware of a student's expectations, you can deliver what you have been approached for. I've observed that there can be a communication gap sometimes that wastes a lot of time for both sides. I usually try to have a detailed chat before a lecture (mostly during the first free tutoring session), and try to understand what my student expects from me. It makes things easier for the student, but more than anything, it makes my life simple.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I had a student who was confused by various concepts in the Geotechnical Engineering lesson " Lateral Earth pressure." The trouble was with making decisions when solving numerical problems. I taught him a step-by-step approach that would work for any numerical problem pertaining to the aforementioned topic. And that worked very well, and he received a high score.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

The biggest issue I've discovered is the wide range of courses and study materials offered by different universities. Some universities place a greater emphasis on one aspect than others. As a result, I usually have to go through their syllabi and find out which topics are methodologically different. Another difficult aspect is when I have to teach a subject based on a code of practice from another country. Prior to the lesson, such themes necessitate considerable time-consuming homework.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I like Programming. I am good at python and love playing with data. I usually use python to solve civil engineering related problems. It is fun.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I am sensitive to my students' aspirations and understand their state of mind because I have been through the same stage in my academic life. A professor, I believe, educates you because it is his job. A Superprof is someone who goes above and beyond traditional teaching methods, recognises that each student is unique and requires various degrees of consideration, and ensures that the reason you were approached is met
