I have been taking Spanish lessons with Lodro for more than three years, after a friend recommended I reach out to him after I mentioned that I had been using various apps and found that I still could not speak conversational Spanish. From the start, I was struck by how thoughtful and strategic Lodro's approach was. His initial focus on the nuts and bolts of Spanish and in giving me the tools I needed to structure thoughts and sentences, rather than just straight vocabulary, allowed me to speak and understand more with greater confidence than I had expected. Over time, I have continued to grow and improve my Spanish skills to a place where I can use Spanish both professionally and in my day-to-day life. Even still, Lodro continues to identify and target his lessons to areas where I am less confident or struggling or to expanding my vocabulary and Spanish skills to be able to speak more naturally and natively and understand more. He also focuses heavily on conversation, which means that I am using Spanish as well as learning it on a regular basis (and also means that, after four years of chatting weekly, I've got a good friend as well as a tutor).

He is clearly somebody who loves language and to think and talk about it, but it is his ability to capture the specific teachable moments and pieces of the language and to find ways to communicate complex topics in a clear way that makes him stand out. I'm the quintessential student who has never had an easy time learning a second language, even as a kid. Alejandro is a master at his craft. He knows that learning a language isn't just translating words, but understanding the structure and building blocks of a language. Alejandro is a great teacher. In just under 5 months, he was able to teach me more than Spanish basic grammar. He taught me to speak well enough to have business meetings and understand work emails. His teaching method is superb and has a good mix of grammar and conversation. He will let you practice the grammar you learn. Something I noticed when learning foreign languages in the past is that a professor may teach you grammar and still that grammar lesson is set unpracticed for a while, usually as long as until you have forgotten it. With Alejandro this will not be the case and so you will remember what you learn. Most importantly, Alejandro cares a lot and is able to accomodate a flexible schedule. Extremely recommended.

Taking Spanish lessons with Alejandro is an absolute pleasure. Before starting lessons with Alejandro, I felt very self-conscious speaking in Spanish--I was worried about my grammar, vocabulary, and accent. Alejandro is extremely patient and understanding, and I immediately felt comfortable making mistakes and stumbling my way through conversations. Alejandro's lessons strike a perfect balance between formal and practical, offering structure and organization, but without the feeling of being in a classroom. You can tailor the lessons to what you are looking for--whether that be practice with conversation, reading comprehension, vocabulary-building, or grammar exercises. I find the lessons to be varied, engaging, and very enjoyable--particularly in light of Alejandro's friendly and upbeat personality--and the hour passes quickly. Alejandro has an excellent memory and is great at circling back each lesson to things that I have struggled with in the past, building on prior lessons and ensuring continued progress. I appreciate that he takes the lessons and my development as a Spanish speaker seriously and comes prepared to work hard along with me. I would highly recommend Alejandro as a Spanish tutor!

Best of the best!!! He teaches differently from other tutors but makes it much easier for students to memorize and absorb. Even so, the way Alejandro broke down certain concepts made them extremely accessible—in a way I had never experienced in my schooling. Alejandro was an expert at giving very clear and easy examples and tricks of how to train your brain to comprehend Spanish grammar. Our lessons were extremely helpful and my fluency improved exponentially. I’ve had many Spanish teachers in the past but Alejandro was hands down the best.
