About Aleza

Hi, I'm so glad you found me — especially if statistics has been stressing you out! I'm a psychologist and researcher with a PhD in Psychology, and statistics has been a core part of my academic and research career. I've spent years using R and SPSS in real research settings, which means I don't just know how to teach stats — I know how to actually use them.

But my connection to this work is personal too. I'm neurodivergent — I have ADHD and dyslexia — and I remember vividly how abstract and overwhelming numbers and formulas felt before things finally clicked for me. Getting through graduate-level statistics as someone whose brain works differently wasn't always easy, and that experience gives me a genuine understanding of why so many students find stats so frustrating. It also means I've built a toolkit of strategies for making complex, number-heavy concepts feel logical and approachable rather than intimidating.

I work with students at all levels — from high schoolers encountering statistics for the first time to graduate students running analyses for their theses and dissertations. My psychology and social science students are especially close to my heart, since statistics in those fields comes with its own unique challenges and expectations around how results are interpreted and reported.

What I find most rewarding is watching students go from dreading their stats assignments to feeling genuinely capable of working through problems on their own. That shift in confidence — from "I can't do this" to "I've got this" — is exactly why I do this work.

When I'm not tutoring or buried in research, you'll find me doing stand-up comedy or training in gymnastics. Two very different hobbies, but both taught me that the things that feel impossible at first are usually just waiting for the right approach and a little patience — which is exactly the philosophy I bring to every statistics session.
I'd love to help you make sense of the numbers — let's get started!

My statistics sessions are available both online and in-person, tailored completely to what you need. Whether you're brand new to stats or working through advanced analyses for your dissertation, there's no judgment here — just clear, patient guidance at your pace.

Who This Is For
My statistics lessons are ideal for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students at any level. I work most frequently with psychology and social science students who need to understand and apply statistics as part of their coursework or research — but anyone who feels intimidated, confused, or just stuck is welcome. I also support students working on independent research projects, theses, and dissertations who need help designing their study, running analyses, or making sense of their results.

What We Work On
Sessions are completely flexible based on your needs and can cover any combination of:

Core statistical concepts and theory, explained in plain language
Running and interpreting analyses in R and SPSS
Understanding and reporting results correctly
Research design and methodology
Connecting statistical output back to your actual research questions
Building enough confidence to work independently beyond our sessions

How Sessions Are Structured
Because every student comes to me with different gaps, goals, and learning styles, I don't follow a fixed lesson plan. Some students need to rebuild their conceptual foundation before anything else clicks. Others arrive with data already collected and just need help running the right analyses and understanding what the numbers mean. For dissertation and research students, we often work directly through your own project — which means everything we cover is immediately relevant and applicable to real work you're already doing. Wherever you are, we start there.

What Sets Me Apart
I hold a PhD in Psychology with a research background, which means I don't just teach statistics from a textbook — I've actually used these methods in real academic research. I understand not only how to run analyses in R and SPSS, but why certain methods are chosen, how to interpret results meaningfully, and how to write them up in a way that holds up academically. I'm also neurodivergent myself, so I'm especially skilled at breaking down abstract, number-heavy concepts into clear, manageable steps for students whose brains work differently. Statistics has a reputation for being cold and intimidating — my goal is to make it feel logical, approachable, and even a little satisfying once it starts to click.
