About Ademola
BIO Adefolami Ademola is a storyteller, curator, and content strategist. A 2016 PIN (Poets in Nigeria) Poets’ Residency Fellow, his poem, “Memories, regurgitated” was a finalist for the 2016 edition of the Korea/Nigeria Cultural Poetry Fiesta. As a writer, he has published poems, essays, feature articles, book reviews, opinions and think-pieces for various platforms. His personal essay, Dying in Installments was published in the print edition of Selves: An Afro Anthology of Creative Nonfiction. A Half-Formed Thing, another essay, was published in Anathema Magazine in 2019. His poems have appeared in Sentinel Literary Quarterly, Prosopisia, New Orleans Review, Poetry Potion, Prachya Review, Arts & Africa, New York Literary Magazine, among others while his nonfiction pieces have been published or are forthcoming in Akoma, The Nerve Africa, The Afro Vibe, Ynaija, Newshunter, Ebedi Review, Entropy Magazine, Ktravula, Folio Nigeria, The Rustin Times, among others. Between 2014 and 2017, he worked as a volunteer for the Ake Festival, the Lagos Book and Arts Festival, Lagos Theatre Festival. He also served as Volunteer for the Lagos International Poetry Festival in 2016, and even performed during the festival’s open mic event. In January 2017, he began working as Content Writer/Brand Manager (Intern) at The Nerve Africa, where he was a culture correspondent, and in-house editor. His writings centered around culture, travels, arts and the literary space. Shortly afterwards, he worked as Public Relations Executive at WNT for WNT Capitas, where he was largely responsible for creating most of the contents that were published about the company’s major clients, Lafarge Africa. He also partly ghost-wrote, edited and proofread a book, My Child, My Friend, a psychological exploration of the mother-child relationship, by Mrs Alufohai, the wife of the former President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. In March 2018, he began work as Marketing Manager for Ouida Books, one of the innovative publishing firms in Nigeria, while also serving as Bookstore Manager during the firm’s two annual festivals, the Ake Arts and Book Festival and the Kaduna Book and Arts Festival, in the space of two years. He was responsible for book promotion designs and distribution campaigns for Feyi Olubodun, Hadiza El-Rufai, Frankie Edozien, Ayo Oyeku. These promotions included television appearances on TVC, Channels TV, Rave TV, radio stations like Classic FM and Sope Martin’s book review show on air, while also getting reviews published in both print and electronic media outlets like Brittlepaer, Daily Trust, Punch Newspapers, Syncity, Bagus NG, and many active literary blogs around the continent. Along the line, he ghost-wrote a couple of essay collections and memoirs (whose names he cannot claim), and some singular works in creative nonfiction. In April, 2019, he was selected for King’s College, London’s Creative Industries Development seminar in Lagos. He was selected as an expert on book publishing and distribution. In 2019, he was Festival Coordinator for the Kaduna Book and Arts Festival. The same year, he moderated a panel tagged Nonfiction And The Writer’s Prerogative at the Festival. The panel had in attendance Sibongile Fisher (South Africa), Frances Ogamba (winner, Kofi Addo Prize For Nonfiction, 2019), and Hauwa Nuhu Shafii. Also, in the same year, he moderated another panel titled Intimacy And The Exploration Of Self: New Nonfiction Writing at Ake Festival. Among the panelists were Tolu Daniel, renowned essayist and writer, Howard Maximum, Cameroonian writer, and shortlisted writer for the Miles Morland Fellowship, and Sibongile Fisher, South African writer, and winner of the Short Story Day Africa Prize, 2016. He joined Quramo Publishing Limited in 2020 as a consultant on Content Strategy. In October of that year, he was Festival Coordinator at the annual Quramo Festival of Words, working with the Programs Director on designing the festival program and suggesting reliable guests for each program item.
