About Milan
"Hard" science and maths don't actually have to be *hard*! In addition to helping students become comfortable and proficient with subjects they might otherwise struggle with, I also to help them be able to enjoy the process, maybe even discover a passion! I know what it's like to feel left out or left behind by the curriculum when you're in a big class that has to quickly move on. I'm here to help YOU, which means finding the ideal ways for each and every student to learn.

A student's difficulty learning the mathematical sciences often stems from three factors: 1) *Lack of intuitive understanding of the more-abstract facets.* I often encounter students who feel they don't "get" the fundamental ideas underpinning a STEM subject, and instead wish to rely on rote memorisation. Though it is a powerful technique, this often causes students to give up on actually gaining a long-term understanding, leading them to exponentially struggle with more advanced concepts later on. In a one-to-one tutoring setting, and with the plethora of virtual learning tools at our fingertips today, I am confident in my ability to communicate technical concepts to students in a helpful and intuitive manner. 2) *Difficulty with applications of technical skills.* As I have said, rote memorisation can be a powerful tool; it is especially relevant to examinations. When under a time-constraint, it is vital that students can utilise their numeracy skills with efficiency and confidence. It is important to teach students how to be comfortable and effective with making various calculations and other forms of scientific reasoning, both during and outside of exams. Figuratively-speaking: to learn how to fix a car, you need know how to use your toolbox. The answer to this obstacle is simple: practice, practice, practice. With my tutoring experience, I am fully able to guide students through their attempts at solving mathematical and scientific problem sets, and tailoring their practice problems when necessary. 3) *Fatigue and Disinterest.* This is the most prevalent obstacle for students in the scientific subjects. Starting from a young age, and through no fault of their own, students can become alienated from mathematical curriculum. Maybe they missed one day of class; maybe they misheard the explanation of a single fundamental idea; these moments can snowball into an inability to relate to their studies and put what they learnt into practice. Finally, this can result in apathy and a lack of motivation to keep trying, especially when the appropriate guidance isn't available. It is only human. My solution for such cases is to ignite the student's interest, comfort, and ability in continuing their pursuit of learning. The mathematical sciences can be a deeply fascinating, if-esoteric field of study. Unfortunately, it isn't always accessible to all. I am able to demonstrate both core and advanced technical concepts to students in a way that will be fully digestible and engaging. Whether it is through long-term supplemental lessons or exam preparations, I promise to channel my years of experience and expertise into effective and measurable results for a student's learning. I recommend lesson lengths to be between one to two hours. Online lessons will be supported with digital lesson plans that students can refer to after the tutoring sessions.

I have known him for a decade, as his high school teacher and we have remained in touch after he graduated. Milan is intelligent, knowledgeable and a strong communicator. I'm confident that he would be a highly effective tutor.
Milan is the most patient tutor you could ever find. He finds creative ways to reframe problems in a way that excites students, using analogies that deepen understanding while making the subject interesting. Milan is excellent at what he does. I highly recommend his services.
Milan is an incredibly diligent and thoughtful mentor with whom I enjoyed both working and studying. In several projects we were together, he showed a keen eye for detail and a depth of knowledge.
I aught Milan Zaavy for four years, through his studies in ICT at IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme course Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS). He is an intelligent, inquisitive young man who loves to learn.
In class, Milan brought his own brand of enthusiasm to every lesson, actively participating in whole-class discussions. He enjoys a spirited debate and bringing his own perspective to debates about social and ethical issues.
He was also an active member of my extracurricular Classics group, learning about the history, politics and literature of Ancient Greece and Rome, in addition to learning some elementary Greek and Latin. Here Milan’s passion for philosophizing was a real asset, as he built up a firm foundation of understanding about epic poetry, Athenian democracy and the plays of Aeschylus and Aristophanes.
I thoroughly enjoyed teaching Milan, and am confident that he would be a highly effective tutor.View more recommendations
