About Maya

I am currently working in genetics, developing a gene therapy to address diseases of the retina. In undergrad I was a tutor and teaching assistant, working in both undergraduate and graduate level lecture and lab classes. Additionally I volunteered with middle and high school students on a variety of coursework including science, math and writing. I love working with a variety of backgrounds to help students succeed and study effectively for STEM coursework. My goal is to continue sharing knowledge and I am especially passionate about helping underrepresented students thrive in STEM!

About the lesson

I aim to personalize your learning experience by working on what’s going well and why to emphasize your strengths while adjusting strategies to make up areas where you’re underperforming. My background in neurosciences taught me that everyone learns uniquely, and the best way to support learning is to personalize my approach to you.

I am pleased to recommend Maya as a trustworthy teacher and tutor for Superprof. I have known Maya since the start of my freshmen year, and as I transitioned into my sophomore year with more challenging courses, Maya generously offered her tutoring services to me.

Maya served as a chemistry tutor for DePaul University, where she frequently assisted me with understanding complex lessons, exercises, and problems that I had been struggling to grasp from my professor. Her tutoring style was phenomenal; she allowed me to work through problems with her guidance, helped me grasp organic chemistry concepts more thoroughly, and asked probing questions to deepen my understanding.

Maya brings positive energy and a great mindset to tutoring. She genuinely wants to see her students succeed and goes above and beyond to make sure that happens. Thanks to her support and dedications in helping me, I was able to achieve an A in organic chemistry. I am deeply grateful to Maya for her tutoring assistance and wholeheartedly recommend her as an outstanding tutor.
