About Nessia
Born and raised in Lansing, Michigan, Nessia Brooks is a dedicated and versatile musician with a deep passion for piano performance and music education. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a minor in Cognitive Science at Michigan State University, where she studies classical piano under Dr. Young Hyun Cho. Nessia’s musical journey bridges both classical and jazz traditions. At MSU, she also studied jazz piano under the esteemed Xavier Davis and has served as the pianist for Jazz Orchestra III since 2023. Through this ensemble, she has performed alongside celebrated artists such as pianist Geoffrey Keezer and bassist Clayton Hamilton, co-leader of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. In the summer of 2025, Nessia performed at the historic Centro Studi Carlo Della Giacoma in Todi, Italy, further enriching her international experience as a performer. She previously attended the Orford Music Academy in Quebec, Canada (2024), where she studied with internationally acclaimed pianist Jimmy Brière. Her accomplishments have been recognized with honors such as the 2025 Marie S. Black Endowed Scholarship in Music through MSU. As a collaborative pianist, Nessia has worked extensively with vocalists and instrumentalists including double bass, saxophone, flute, and violin. Additionally, she often premieres works by MSU composition students and performs in diverse chamber music settings. She has also served as the pianist for numerous band and orchestra auditions for public schools in the Lansing area, further demonstrating her versatility and commitment to supporting young musicians. Nessia’s teaching journey began in high school as a volunteer assistant piano instructor at the Ben Diaz School of Piano. In 2022, she began teaching at the Roth Academy of Music in Grand Ledge, where she became the lead piano instructor in 2023, working with students of all ages and levels. Today, Nessia runs her own private piano studio, offering personalized one-on-one lessons and recital opportunities to her students. Nessia brings joy, patience, and genuine care to every lesson. She finds true fulfillment in helping her students grow into confident, expressive pianists and takes pride in supporting them at every step of their musical journey

The Brooks Piano Studio offers high-quality, one-on-one instruction for students of all ages and experience levels. The studio provides a supportive environment where musicians can grow in confidence, technique, and musicality. Piano lessons are offered starting at the age of five. Lesson curriculums incorporate fundamentals such as music reading, music theory, aural skills, and correct fingering/hand position techniques. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to refine your artistry, personalized lessons are designed to meet your individual goals. Students also have opportunities to perform, gaining valuable experience playing in front of an audience perfect for building stage confidence and celebrating progress. Lessons are available in three formats to accommodate your needs: in-studio, in-home instruction, and virtual sessions. (Serving the Lansing, Dewitt, Haslett, Grand Ledge areas and beyond)
