Joshua is one of our best Maths tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Joshua

I’m Josh, a scientist (marine and conservation biologist) and tutor with five years’ experience in Cape Town. I taught myself advanced maths and physics, and to do it I built the Imaginative Learning System: a way of turning abstract ideas into pictures and analogies you can actually hold in your head.

Because I learned it the hard way, I know exactly where students get stuck and what gets them unstuck. I teach from a student’s point of view, not a textbook’s.

About the lesson

Who it’s for
- Grade 4–12 Maths and Physical Sciences, including matric exam prep
- First-year university calculus and algebra
- Adults returning to maths

How a lesson works
- Picture it: every new idea gets a sketch or real-world analogy before a formula
- Story it: we link it to what you already know, so each step makes sense
- Recall it: you solve similar problems yourself, then we move on to past papers

I don’t re-teach your class. I help you finally understand what your teacher covered.

In 2025, a learner improved markedly in maths using just two techniques from this system and became far more confident in class.

Review

All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Joshua.

Perfect! A scholar and a saint! Literally came to him aomth before the exam (do not recommend) and the assistance received with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology honestly make me wish I had a DeLorean so I could have had lessons with him for longer. He is really approachable, and the way he conducts his lessons are enjoyable. Thanks for all your help Joshua, and hopefully many others find you as helpful as I did ^^

Joshua's response
Yuvir and Suvir were amazing students; curious, fun, and intelligent. They interacted with Greta enthusiasm. This is always a good thing and makes teaching and tutoring much easier and fun!
