About Mikayla
Helping students is something I find joy in! I have worked in various settings with students as a tutor and mentor throughout my high school and undergraduate careers. I earned 4s on both my AP English Language and AP English Literature exams. As a current graduate student I have to rely heavily on my reading and writing skills, so I am confident I can assist you with all of your English needs. I am patient and an excellent listener. I find the relationship between tutor and tutee to be of utmost importance, so I try to get to know tutees a bit and let them get to know me. This helps students feel more open to ask questions or tell me when they do not understand something. I like to open my lessons by giving students a chance to ask any questions about the topic. From there, I will go into the lesson plan that I create. I introduce the topic and ask the tutee what they know about said topic. After that, I like to give specific examples regarding the subject and invite students to ask questions. I will give the student opportunities throughout the lesson to apply what they are learning. At the end of each lesson, I give a brief "quiz" to help myself and the student think about what we learned that day. This quiz will be revisited at the next session, so we can assess how much the student has retained. I encourage students to find answers to their own questions, rather than handing them answers. I give lessons for K-12th, and also some community college/university students.
