About Yael
I have just graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where I studied classical and jazz trumpet. I am now continuing my trumpet studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. I have a wide variety of experience including the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, State Schools Spectacular Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Big Band, Glen Eira Brass Band, 3mbs radio performer, Young Mannheim Symphonists, and received an A+ in my AMEB grade 8 exam three years ago. I have been privately tutoring trumpet for two years, and thoroughly enjoy watching my students improve. I have also filled in as a trumpet teacher at Kambrya College, teaching students from years 7 to 12. I am very passionate about fostering students' love for music and for trumpet. Trumpet is so versatile, meaning so many different genres of music use the trumpet!

My teaching approach is very much a mixture of necessary technical exercises and pieces/studies, as well as songs the student wishes to learn. I like to integrate both music theory and aural skills through getting the student to play the music from reading the notes as well as simply hearing them.
I begin my lessons with a warm up and technical routine that I create to suit the student, with input from the student. We then look at a piece/s of music relevant to their level or for an upcoming exam, and I encourage listening to recordings. Finally, I like to finish the lesson playing some duets, exploring jazz improvisation, or playing a piece of music that the student wants to learn. e.g., film music or pop songs.
I have been tutoring privately for two years. For older students (high school age or older), I recommend 45 minute to 1 hour lessons, and younger students, 30 minutes.
