About Idrees
I'm a Mechatronics Engineering student at the University of Cape Town. I wrote the IEB matric exams and finished with 88% for Mathematics and 80% for Further Studies Mathematics, and I'm now working through engineering mathematics at university, so this is material I use every week rather than something I learned once and set aside.
I'm new to tutoring professionally, but I've spent a lot of time explaining this subject to people who are stuck: I helped classmates with maths through school, and I currently tutor my sister, who is in Grade 8. Most students who think they're bad at maths are carrying one or two gaps from an earlier grade, and once those are closed the subject stops feeling arbitrary. That's the work I care about.
You can expect me to be prepared, on time, and honest. If you ask me something I need to check properly first, I'll say so and come back with a real explanation rather than guessing. I work with both IEB and DBE students, since the content is much the same and it's mainly the exam style that differs. I'm patient with students who are struggling, and I also take Further Studies Mathematics at Standard level, covering complex numbers, integration, proof by induction and Newton-Raphson. I teach in English.

My approach:
I am studying Mechatronics Engineering at UCT, so I'm used to breaking complex problems into logical steps, and I bring that same approach to tutoring. I focus on helping you understand why a method works, not just how to apply it, so you can handle unfamiliar questions confidently in tests and exams.

What to expect:
We start by identifying where you're stuck, then work through examples together, with me guiding you toward the answer rather than just giving it. I also set practice problems and go through past papers, since exam technique matters as much as content knowledge.
Who this is for:
High school students doing Maths and Further Studies Maths, from those needing to rebuild their basics to strong students chasing top marks and extra exam-technique coaching. I'm comfortable with juniors building foundations and matrics preparing for finals.
