About Brenna
I've recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with an MPhil in Politics and International Studies, after completing my undergraduate degree in Human, Social, and Political Sciences there as well. During my two degrees, I worked for the undergraduate admissions office at my college (King's), which gave me comprehensive insight into the kind of applications and candidates Oxbridge looks for and the best strategies to employ in interviews. I also tutored students in lower years at Cambridge in politics and international relations, in both exam-based courses and dissertations. I'm offering tutoring in UK University Admissions (personal statement prep, mock interviews, etc.) and politics and international relations.

When tutoring university, and particularly Oxbridge admissions, my primary goal is to help students understand the core traits that admissions tutors are looking for and how they can demonstrate those in their personal statements and interviews. Ultimately, no amount of preparation can ensure applicants have an answer for any potential interview question, so I focus on breaking down how to approach questions in a way that produces impressive answers and building confidence in public speaking generally.
For politics and international relations tutoring, my primary aim is to orient students to the key debates in a particular topic and begin to form opinions about them, giving them the tools to evaluate sources independently and write persuasively. I also find points of genuine interest and real world applicability for each topic, both to provide context for deeper understanding and help with motivation.
My lessons are typically an hour long, and are primarily aimed at 6th form students or undergraduates studying politics and/or international relations. I have helped several students successfully apply to Cambridge and Oxford in the past few years, through mock interviews and personal statement tutoring. Aside from University Admissions, I worked as a teaching assistant for an AP course (A-Level equivalent) before university, and at Cambridge I tutored students in the years below on politics and international relations.
