  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in Civil Engineering and teaching English began during my undergraduate studies. I was captivated by the complexities and impacts of Civil Engineering on daily life and the intricacies of language as a tool for communication. Private tutoring became a passion as I recognized the profound difference personalized education could make in a student's understanding and confidence.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach both Civil Engineering and English. In Civil Engineering, I am particularly enthusiastic about discussing structural analysis and project management, though I find the routine aspects of material science less engaging. In English, I enjoy leading conversations that enhance practical speaking skills and corporate communication, aligning with real-world applications.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, during my university years, one of my professors was particularly inspiring. His dedication to teaching complex engineering concepts with real-life applications helped me see the value of practical education, which I strive to emulate in my own teaching.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of the subject matter are crucial. A good tutor must also be capable of empathizing with students, recognizing their unique learning styles, and fostering a supportive and motivating environment.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

A memorable moment from my teaching career was when a struggling student finally grasped a difficult concept in structural engineering after several tailored tutoring sessions. This breakthrough not only boosted the student's confidence but also reaffirmed the importance of persistence and personalized teaching strategies in education.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges in teaching Civil Engineering is making complex mathematical and technical concepts accessible to students with varying levels of prior knowledge. In English, the challenge often lies in helping students overcome language barriers and gain confidence in their communication skills.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion definitely lies in teaching and the transformative impact it can have on students' lives. I am particularly passionate about applying theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios, bridging the gap between textbook learning and real-world application.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

What makes me a Superprof is my dedication to my students' success and my ability to tailor lessons to meet their individual needs and goals. My academic background and practical experience allow me to provide valuable insights, making learning more relevant and exciting.
