  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in teaching during my college days. I found myself naturally inclined to help my colleagues and friends understand challenging concepts, especially in Maths, Science, and Computer subjects. This passion for teaching grew stronger, and by the time I reached the 3rd year of my B.Tech, I decided to start private tutoring professionally. The experience has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to share my knowledge and help students achieve their academic goals.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

In my tutoring practice, I focus on Maths, Science, and Computer subjects. I enjoy discussing topics that challenge students to think critically and apply concepts creatively. In Maths, I particularly like exploring calculus and algebra, as they offer many opportunities for problem-solving and analytical thinking. In Science, I enjoy teaching chemistry, especially the topics of chemical reactions and organic chemistry, because they help students understand the composition and behavior of matter. In Computer Science, programming and algorithms are my favorite areas, as they encourage logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

While I enjoy most topics within these subjects, certain foundational topics, like basic arithmetic or elementary coding concepts, can be less exciting to teach repeatedly. However, I recognize their importance and strive to make them engaging and accessible to all my students. My goal is to ensure that students have a solid understanding of these fundamentals, as they are crucial for mastering more advanced topics.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I've been inspired by a couple of remarkable individuals. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, with his profound dedication to education and his ability to motivate and inspire students, has had a significant impact on me. His emphasis on dreams, perseverance, and the importance of education aligns closely with my own values as an educator.

Additionally, Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, has greatly influenced my approach to teaching. His contributions to spiritual education and personal development have taught me the importance of nurturing not just academic knowledge but also personal growth and values in students. Both of these role models have shaped my philosophy of education and continue to inspire me in my teaching practice
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

To be an effective tutor, several key qualities are essential. First and foremost, I believe that a tutor must be a good student themselves and never stop learning. This mindset not only enhances their own knowledge but also models a continuous learning attitude for students.

Patience is crucial, as it allows you to support students through their learning process without frustration. Effective communication skills are also vital, enabling you to explain concepts clearly and in a way that resonates with each student.

Empathy is important for understanding each student's unique challenges and needs, allowing for tailored support. Being knowledgeable in the subject matter ensures that you provide accurate and valuable guidance.

Adaptability is another key quality, as it allows you to adjust your teaching methods to fit the student's learning style and needs. Encouragement is essential to motivate students, boost their confidence, and help them achieve their potential.

Additionally, organizational skills are important for planning lessons effectively and managing time efficiently during sessions. Having a genuine passion for teaching helps make the learning experience more engaging and enjoyable for students. These qualities together create a supportive and effective learning environment.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my time as a student, I had a particularly memorable experience in a chemistry class. We were studying chemical reactions, and I struggled with understanding how to balance complex equations. My teacher noticed my frustration and took a moment to explain the concepts using a real-world analogy-comparing chemical reactions to recipes in cooking. This approach made the abstract concepts much more relatable and easier to grasp.

Inspired by this experience, I now use similar real-world analogies when teaching coding. For instance, I compare programming functions to machines in a factory, where each machine has a specific task and contributes to the final product. This method helps students visualize and comprehend complex coding concepts more effectively. This experience taught me the power of using analogies to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, making learning more engaging and accessible.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Throughout my experience as a tutor, I've encountered several challenges:

    1. Keeping Up with Rapid Changes: In fields like Computer Science, technology evolves rapidly. Staying current with the latest programming languages and tools can be demanding. To address this, I make it a priority to engage in continuous learning and integrate new developments into my teaching to keep my students informed and up-to-date.

    2. Maintaining Engagement: Keeping students motivated, especially in complex subjects like Maths and Science, can be difficult. I address this by incorporating real-world applications and interactive activities to make the material more relevant and engaging.

    3. Addressing Diverse Backgrounds: Students come with varying levels of prior knowledge, which requires bridging gaps while progressing through the curriculum. I focus on building a strong foundation and gradually advancing to more complex topics to ensure all students are on the same page.

These challenges have helped me refine my teaching strategies and enhance my ability to support students effectively in their learning journey.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a deep passion for teaching, particularly in making complex subjects accessible and engaging for students. I find great satisfaction in breaking down challenging concepts, especially in Maths, Science, and Computer Science, and presenting them in a way that is relatable and understandable. This passion extends beyond just the subjects themselves; I am equally enthusiastic about fostering a love for learning in my students and helping them develop critical thinking skills.

Additionally, I have a particular interest in using real-world analogies to teach coding. This approach not only makes abstract concepts more tangible but also shows students the practical applications of what they are learning. Seeing students gain confidence and become excited about their progress is incredibly rewarding and is a significant driving force behind my passion for teaching.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

What makes me a "Superprof" is my dedication to providing personalized and engaging education to my students. I strive to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring subjects in depth. My use of real-world analogies helps students connect with complex concepts, particularly in coding and other STEM subjects, making learning more intuitive and enjoyable.

Additionally, my commitment to continuous learning ensures that I stay updated with the latest educational strategies and technological advancements, which I incorporate into my teaching. My focus on not just academic success but also on building confidence and critical thinking skills sets me apart. I genuinely care about my students' growth and am passionate about helping them achieve their full potential. This dedication and enthusiasm for teaching are what make me a Superprof.
