About James
Professional Background & Experience:
I have over 18 months combined teaching experience between being a science teacher and a tutor, with experience working with children from Kindergarten up to Year 12 of all ability levels and academic backgrounds. I have consistently received positive feedback from my students with a proven record of helping my students massively improve their confidence and grades in the subjects they once struggled in. I have a strong ability to communicate, engage, and teach students, as well as navigating the interpersonal student-teacher relationship. My style of teaching focuses on simple, step-by-step, clear explanations with a focus on 'the why', which facilitates a very effective, clarifying, and enjoyable learning experience for students. Apart from direct academic teaching experience, I have over three years of combined sports coaching experience in water polo and surfing, working with a variety of ages and ability levels with demonstrated success.
How I Can Help:
Subjects I tutor include: Standard and Advanced Math, Standard and Advanced English, Economics, and Legal Studies. Please refer to the subject list for all subjects I tutor. I can also help your child succeed in the OC Placement Test and the Selective High School Placement Test, having succeeded in both when I was younger.
For children/teenagers who are struggling or unconfident in their studies, you can expect to see a massive improvement in grades, confidence, and comprehension of your subject over the course of our tutoring sessions. For those who are doing well and want to excel, I can provide the guidance, expertise, and motivation for you to become a top achiever in your class.

About Me:
Teaching is something that I am passionate about and that I genuinely enjoy. As someone who received tutoring as a child and is now tutoring others, I understand and have experienced first-hand the importance of quality, specialised education and the long-lasting positive impact it brings to children throughout their schooling years and beyond. As an average kid, my parents decided to send me to a tutor for a few years when I was younger, which I believe has massively catalysed the academic success I have seen throughout primary and high school, such as acing the OC Entrance Exam in 2012 (score of ~242), receiving a 70% academic scolarship entry into Pittwater House in 2014, succeeding in the Selective High School Placement Test twice in 2014 and 2018 for both Year 7 and Year 11 entry into Manly Selective Campus, and achieving an ATAR of 96.95 in 2020. I am now tutoring with the aim of inspiring kids and teenagers to see their true academic potential, and fostering curiosity for lifelong learning beyond their schooling years.
