About LeAnn
As a dedicated and professional tutor, I am committed to providing every student with a supportive, engaging, and effective learning experience. My academic background includes graduating as Valedictorian of Hampton Christian Academy's Class of 2018 with an Advanced High School Diploma and a 4.35 GPA. I continued my education at Christopher Newport University and Thomas Nelson Community College while working as a tutor, gaining valuable experience helping students succeed across multiple subject areas.
In addition to my professional tutoring experience, I have spent years working with elementary-aged students through after-school tutoring programs and volunteer service within my community. These experiences have strengthened my ability to adapt lessons to different learning styles, communicate clearly, and build positive relationships with students and families.
Parents and students can expect punctuality, professionalism, patience, and consistent encouragement in every session. I believe that every pupil is capable of learning and growing when given the right support and instruction. I received my educational training through Hampton Christian Academy in Virginia, where I graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 2018 with an Advanced High School Diploma and a 4.35 GPA. I continued my education at Christopher Newport University and Thomas Nelson Community College. Throughout my academic career, I worked as a tutor to help support my higher education expenses, gaining valuable experience working with students across multiple subject areas.
In addition to my professional tutoring experience, I provided after-school tutoring throughout high school in a variety of subjects. I also volunteered at a community center serving low-income families in Hampton, Virginia, where I worked with elementary-aged students on homework completion, reading practice, and academic skill development. These experiences strengthened my ability to connect with diverse learners, adapt instruction to individual needs, and create a successful tutoring profile.
I am passionate about teaching Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and College and University Preparation. I particularly enjoy helping young learners build strong foundational skills and develop confidence in their abilities. One of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring is seeing students overcome challenges, gain independence, and discover that learning can be both enjoyable and achievable.
My tutoring sessions are student-centered, interactive, and tailored to each learner's individual needs. I begin by assessing the student's current understanding, strengths, and areas for improvement. Based on this information, I create a structured lesson that balances instruction, guided practice, and independent application. I use positive reinforcement throughout the session to encourage participation and build confidence.
In a typical session, I would review previously learned concepts, introduce or reinforce targeted skills, provide opportunities for hands-on practice, and conclude with a brief assessment or review to measure understanding. For younger learners, I incorporate games, visual aids, stories, and age-appropriate activities to keep students engaged and motivated.
Technology plays an important role in creating an effective virtual learning environment. I would utilize the interactive whiteboard to demonstrate concepts visually, work through problems collaboratively, annotate texts, and provide immediate feedback. I would also use screen sharing, digital worksheets, drawing tools, and interactive activities to maintain student engagement throughout the lesson. For reading and phonics instruction, I would incorporate digital texts, word-building activities, and visual supports. For math instruction, I would use virtual manipulatives, diagrams, and step-by-step problem-solving demonstrations.
My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging online classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and actively participating in their learning. By combining strong instructional practices with interactive technology, I strive to help students build academic skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
