About Seth

I am a Morehouse College graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, concentrating in International Affairs, Policy, and Law. I primarily work with undergraduate students, while also supporting motivated high school students in advanced or college-preparatory coursework. Although I am new to tutoring in an official professional capacity, I have extensive experience tutoring peers throughout my academic career in demanding undergraduate-level courses. I graduated from Morehouse College a full year early by completing a heavy course load that required consistent, disciplined study and high-level analytical performance. During my time as a student, I regularly assisted classmates with understanding complex theories, preparing for exams, engaging with dense academic readings, and developing strong analytical and argumentative writing. These experiences gave me a clear understanding of undergraduate academic expectations and how to meet them effectively. My teaching style is rigorous, interactive, and discussion-driven. I emphasize active engagement through guided discussion, critical questioning, and applied analysis rather than passive learning. Sessions are designed to mirror the intellectual demands of undergraduate classrooms, encouraging students to articulate ideas clearly, defend arguments with evidence, and connect theory to real-world contexts. I believe that students learn best when they are actively involved and challenged in a supportive environment. Drawing on my background as a former military member and law enforcement professional, I provide first-hand perspective on topics related to government, law, public policy, and civic institutions. This allows students to move beyond abstract theory and gain a deeper, more practical understanding of how academic concepts operate in real institutional settings. Students can expect a professional, structured, and intellectually engaging learning environment. I approach each session with preparation, accountability, and respect for the student’s academic goals. My objective is to help students not only succeed in their coursework, but also develop the critical thinking, discipline, and confidence required for advanced study and professional paths in the social sciences. — Seth

My Teaching Approach

My approach as a tutor is structured, student-centered, and focused on building genuine understanding. I emphasize clarity, critical thinking, and real-world application rather than memorization. With an academic background in political science, international affairs, policy, and law, combined with experience as a former military member and law enforcement professional, I bring both theoretical knowledge and first-hand practical insight into each session. This allows undergraduate and advanced high school students to better understand how academic concepts apply to real institutions and decision-making environments.

Teaching Methods and Techniques

I tailor my teaching methods to the student’s academic level, goals, and coursework. Lessons combine guided discussion, structured explanations, historical and contemporary case studies, and targeted practice. In social studies and political science, I focus on analytical reading, policy interpretation, and evidence-based argument development. When appropriate, I draw on real-world experiences from military and law enforcement service to clarify how laws, policies, and government systems function beyond textbooks.

Typical Lesson Structure

A typical lesson begins with a brief review of prior material and a clear outline of session objectives. New concepts are introduced using organized frameworks and relevant examples. Throughout the lesson, I encourage questions and discussion to ensure comprehension. Sessions typically conclude with applied analysis, short writing exercises, or review questions, along with guidance on effective independent study strategies.

What Sets Me Apart

What sets me apart is the integration of academic training with first-hand experience in military and law enforcement settings. This perspective allows me to provide practical context when teaching topics related to government, public policy, law, and civic institutions. I maintain a disciplined yet supportive teaching style and focus on helping students develop long-term academic skills, confidence, and critical thinking abilities.

Who My Lessons Are For

My lessons are designed primarily for undergraduate students in political science, international affairs, public policy, and related social science disciplines. I also work with motivated high school students, particularly those in advanced or college-preparatory courses. My approach is well-suited for students who want structured support, clearer explanations, and deeper understanding of complex social and political topics.
