Hi! Welcome to my Superprof profile! I offer tutoring in Organic + General Chemistry and Biochemistry in French + English. I’m an Associate Scientist working in the Pharmaceutical Industry in Montreal with a Master’s degree in Organic Synthesis and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry both completed at the Université de Sherbrooke and yielding three peer-reviewed articles. In short, years of creativity, passion and proven track records of success have equipped me to deliver successful tutoring aid in organic chemistry. My lessons are for High School, Cégep and University level students. Here's what awaits you: 1. Real-World Applications • What It Is: Showing how chemistry is applied in realistic scenarios to make learning more relevant to you! • How I Implement It: o Relate organic chemistry reactions to the pharmaceutical world (my area of expertise), drug design/discovery, or the production of everyday goods (e.g., plastics, food additives). o Use biochemistry to explain the science behind nutrition, sports recovery, metabolism, or disease at the molecular level. o Bring in real-life examples from my work in the pharmaceutical industry to illustrate how the concepts students are learning in the classroom are used every day in research and development. 2. Differentiated Instruction • What It Is: Tailoring my teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning styles of my students. • How I Implement It: o For Visual Learners: I use illustrations, molecular models, and other visual aids to help explain chemical structures and reactions. o For Auditory Learners: I engage and encourage open discussions, explaining concepts out loud, and using mnemonic tricks to remember key terms or reactions. o Kinesthetic Learners: Use hands-on experiments or virtual labs (if applicable) and encourage note-taking or drawing reaction mechanisms by hand. 3. Active Learning Approach • What It Is: Engage students directly in the learning process, encouraging them to solve problems, discuss concepts, or design experiments. • How I Implement It: o Problem-Solving Sessions: I ask my students to solve problems on the spot and guide them through the process, rather than simply providing answers. o Interactive Examples: I use real-world examples or relevant lab applications, especially in organic chemistry, to demonstrate concepts. o Peer Teaching: I have students explain concepts back to me in their own words to reinforce their understanding. 4. Assessment for Learning (Formative Assessment) • What It Is: Continuous, low-stakes assessments to guide my students' learning and give them feedback. • How I Implement It: o I give regular quizzes or practice problems to gauge progress and identify areas needing more focus. o Use exit tickets: At the end of each session, I ask students to write down one thing they learned and one thing they want help with. o Review mistakes with my students, focusing on their unique thought process, not just the final answer, helping them improve their overall understanding. 8. Gamification and Challenges • What It Is: I add game-like elements to my tutoring sessions to increase engagement and motivation from the students. • How I Implement It: o Chemistry Challenges: I create timed quizzes or puzzles where students need to solve chemical problems or predict reaction outcomes. o Offer small rewards or points for milestones (e.g., mastering a difficult reaction mechanism). o Use apps or websites with gamified learning (e.g., Kahoot! or ChemCaper), or my own types of mini “game” for solving problems.
