About Abdullah Mohammad
My name is Jamil and I am a career educator with a single professional obsession: building the kind of mathematical fluency that gets ambitious students into the world's most competitive university programs and keeps them there.
My path into teaching began in engineering. A degree in Mechanical Engineering from a globally ranked institution (QS 250–300), followed by a Master's in Applied Mathematics completed with the highest distinction, gave me something most educators lack: a practitioner's understanding of what advanced mathematics actually does in the real world. I did not study math to teach it. I taught it because I understood it from the inside out.
Over the past decade, I have worked exclusively within the world's most rigorous international curricula. Seven to eight years specializing in Cambridge A-Level Mathematics and Physics sharpened my ability to diagnose exactly where a student's foundational model breaks down and why. That diagnostic precision came with me when I transitioned to my current role as a full-time IB World School faculty member, where I now teach Mathematics AA HL and AI HL and work directly within the assessment and moderation systems that determine your final score.
What drives my teaching is a conviction that mathematics is not a collection of algorithms to memorize. It is a language for describing physical reality. Every session I run draws on connections across calculus and fluid mechanics, statistical distributions and economics, linear algebra and astrophysics. My students don't just pass their exams. They arrive at university already thinking like the engineers, economists, and scientists they intend to become.
If you are aiming for a Grade 7 and want to work with someone who understands the IB system from the inside — not just the syllabus, but the Internal Assessment rubrics, the Extended Essay criteria, and the exact reasoning examiners reward — this is where that preparation begins.

I am a full-time IB World School faculty member with over a decade of combined teaching experience across IB Diploma Programme Mathematics and Cambridge A-Level Math and Physics. My students target Grade 7 — and my lessons are built around getting them there.
My academic foundation: a degree in Mechanical Engineering from a globally ranked institution (QS 250–300), followed by a Master's in Applied Mathematics completed with the highest distinction in my cohort.
Who This Is For
My sessions are designed exclusively for IB DP students taking Mathematics AA HL or AI HL, particularly those aiming for elite STEM, Engineering, or Economics programmes at top universities worldwide. If your target is a 6 or 7 and you're serious about achieving it, this is the right room.
My Teaching Philosophy
I teach through Inquiry-Based Learning. It is a structured method that guides you to discover the mathematical architecture behind every concept, rather than memorizing steps you'll forget under exam pressure. The goal is genuine fluency: understanding why a theorem holds, not just how to apply it.
Every lesson integrates:
Dynamic visualization using advanced graphing software and live programming logic — converting complex calculus, vectors, and statistical distributions from abstract formulas into spatial, intuitive, and interactive visual models.
Real-world cross-disciplinary grounding drawn from thermodynamics, astrophysics, materials science, and economics — this is where my engineering and physics background gives you something most math tutors simply cannot offer.
Theory of Knowledge (ToK) depth — connecting mathematical ideas to their epistemological roots, which sharpens both your conceptual understanding and your IB essay thinking.
What Genuinely Sets Me Apart
Most tutors teach to the syllabus. I teach from inside the IB system.
As a practising school faculty member, I work directly with the exact assessment rubrics examiners use. That translates into one thing for you: precision. In the Internal Assessment (IA), I know how the criterion descriptors are applied at moderation level — I don't guess. For Extended Essays (EE), I have supervised and marked interdisciplinary work across mathematics and the sciences. I can tell you in the first session exactly where your current approach would lose marks and how to fix it.
My 7–8 years teaching Cambridge A-Level Mathematics and Physics before moving to IB means I can instantly identify where a student's gaps are foundational versus conceptual — and close them efficiently.
What a 60-Minute Session Looks Like
Warm-Up (10 min)
We open with your most pressing bottleneck — a specific concept, a homework problem, or an exam question you couldn't fully resolve. No wasted time.
Conceptual Inquiry (20 min)
We deconstruct a core HL topic together using visual tools and real-world analogies. You're not watching me solve — you're thinking through it with structured guidance.
Exam Application (20 min)
We work through rigorous past-paper questions targeting the specific mark scheme logic IB examiners follow. Time management, command term precision, and marks allocation are explicit parts of every question.
Reflection & Strategy (10 min)
You leave with clear takeaways, direct feedback on your reasoning, and a targeted independent study plan for the week ahead.
Your First Lesson Is Free
No commitment required. Book a session, bring your hardest problem, and see whether this is the right fit for where you want to go.
