About Sophie
I am a singing tutor with over 8 years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Studies. My work draws deeply from cultural music traditions, exploring the richness of Flamenco, Hindustani Classical, Celtic Folk, and African Spirituals. I believe that every voice carries a story, and I help students discover theirs through music that connects them to culture and history. My lessons include mastering vocal ornamentation, developing microtonal expression, and understanding traditional scales unique to different musical heritages. I also emphasize oral transmission techniques, keeping alive the time-honored ways these traditions have been passed down. Students learn not only how to sing but how to listen — to the music, to their own voice, and to the lineage each song represents. I create a space where language and music meet, allowing singers to embrace both identity and artistry. Whether working with beginners or advanced students, I guide them in blending technique with heartfelt expression. My approach encourages curiosity, respect, and an openness to diverse musical worlds. Singing becomes a bridge to understanding and celebrating cultural roots. I also work on choral blend, ensuring students can adapt their sound for ensemble settings while keeping their unique voice. Diction shaping is another important part of my teaching, helping students communicate clearly and with emotional impact. We explore musical interpretation so they can bring meaning and personal depth to every piece they sing. Posture alignment is emphasized to create freedom and ease in the body while singing. I adjust my methods to suit each learner, whether they are seeking emotional grounding or striving for advanced artistry. Some students want to feel at home in their voice, while others aim to refine their phrasing and stylistic choices at a high level. I provide tools for both journeys. My lessons are mindful and supportive, helping students connect with themselves while growing as musicians. I encourage curiosity and independence so they can explore music with confidence. With consistent practice and guidance, I help each learner reach their fullest potential as a singer and artist.
