  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Math has been my passion since my childhood, I always like to discover the universe outside. All the complicated and mysterious things that happen in the world have one thing in common, it is a pattern, logic and language that combined it all together, Math.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach almost all Math Levels such as AP Calculus, Precalculus, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, SAT Preparation, ACT Preparation, (and even the very basics of Math if needed.)
for any curriculums such as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate (HL, SL, MYP and PYP), Cambridge (IGCSE, O Level and A Level).

My favorite things to discuss with students are the justifications for why something is true.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My idols in math are Grant Sanderson and Professor Leonard, from the "3blue1brown" and "Professor Leonard" Youtube channels. The way he communicates and explains math is so amazing!
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Passion is number one! Secondary qualities such as patience, teaching skills, communication etc. they can be developed with effort and dedication, but passion is the most important core aspect if you want to become a great tutor.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When I was teaching Probability, we decided to experiment with dice. We formed small groups and each group was given some dice. Each group was asked to roll the dice 100 times and record how many times an even number and an odd number appeared and we compared the results.

I showed students that if the dice were perfect, then theoretically, the probability of getting an even or an odd number should be equal, i.e. 1/2. However, when we looked at their dice roll results, we found that there was significant variation between the groups.

Then, the students started asking questions and looking for explanations about why this happened. We started a discussion about the irregularities and imprecision that might occur in the dice experiment. They start to consider factors such as the style of throw, the surface on which the dice are rolled, or perhaps the imperfections of the dice themselves.

This conversation opens a window into the world of statistics and allows students to see that probability is really about modeling real world phenomena which are often not very regular and can produce mixed results. They also realized that the data obtained from experiments such as these provide us with valuable insights into the nature of randomness and uncertainty.

This experience not only teaches students about the concept of probability, but also brings mathematics to life in a real and engaging context. This is one example of how teaching mathematics by introducing experiments and justification discussions can bring great gains in students' understanding and inspire their curiosity and appreciation for the beauty of mathematics.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges I've had as a math tutor is understanding the diverse learning needs and abilities of students. Teach too slow, and the faster students' interest isn't piqued. Teach too fast and slower learners will miss too many fundamental concepts. But right now because of having a lot of experience teaching students privately, I've gotten much better at quickly differentiating the categories that new students will fall into.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I love teaching Math, I admire deep conversations, thinking and looking for solutions. Because of my passion for math, becoming a Math tutor was the best decision I have ever made! Teaching is just a way of thinking, communicating, and connecting with your passion.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

Because I really love Math, my dedication, my experiences as a tutor and it is my passion and my will to teach and to be committed to my students. People can learn anything with good guidance and compromise, the patience and constancy to follow learning processes. I will always try my best to be a great Math tutor because I am driven by my passion!
