Hi - If you study jazz or classical piano with me, I will help you have fun playing the piano and quickly become an excellent pianist. I do this by teaching music as a language. When you speak, you never think of the language. You flow. You have ideas. You have emotion. You freely speak. You can do this by playing specific, limited exercises on the piano. It’s all about what is in the subconscious (Think Kenny Werner). The result is to play creatively, loose yourself in the music and . . . to have total fun!!! I am totally dedicated to performing and teaching music. I have an MA in classical piano and am an active performing jazz pianist. I’ve authored three books on improvisation and have many online courses. If you study on Zoom with me, you will also have free access to my main course: “JazzSkills for Piano”. Let’s talk. My phone is (concealed information) I’d love to hear your goals. I can also explain my teaching method. Best to you!!!

I teach a step-by-step process. The student is given a small, fun exercise to play over-and-over, until it is firmly in the subconscious. Then, we move on to the next exercise.
This is the only way to become a proficient music improviser.
Again, I love teaching piano. I work with all students.
Look for a teacher who understands your goals. The teacher should have an organized method to help you to achieve your musical goals.

He's a excellent teacher who has published a couple of books on piano theory. He knows what to teach when to help a student reach their potential.
I have not studied with Martan but know him to be a superb pianist and excellent teacher: his use of tunes in his lessons is excellent, I think...
sincererly,
belowI truly enjoy studying jazz piano with Martan Mann. Here are some of the reasons why:
Martan is a superb musician, much in demand, respected by other working musicians. Plays a wide variety of gigs, both solo and ensemble. What a treat to get one-on-one time and attention from a teacher of this caliber!
Martan's approach to teaching is to help one master skills and get them into one's subconscious. The goal is to develop one's own "voice", to be able to play one's own complete musical ideas, and to express emotion through music. Not just read from a page or play memorized licks.
Martan is creative, inventive. Not just in his own playing, but in his approach to teaching. He's great at coming up with multiple ways/techniques/analogies to communicate a concept, and to help get it into one's subconscious.
Martan is amazingly patient, supportive, and positive. He guides you toward perfection - in how you touch the keyboard, how you listen deeply to the sound you are creating, how you feel the emotion of the music, etc. - but always in an enjoyable, comfortable way.
Finally, I would say that you just won't find a nicer person than Martan.
Martan is a wonderful teacher. He knew where I was weak and helped me improve my piano playing so much with exercises, theory and better reading of the music.
I was in the dark when it came to understanding how to use the tools I had acquired regarding basic jazz patterns, and carelessly threw them into my playing. But that abruptly ended when I met Martan Mann, and he showed me how to slow down and listen and actually apply the theory to my improv. His online lessons are extremely well composed and he has decomposed the lessons into logical categories that anyone can understand. It is one thing to be a Great Player, which he is, and an entirely different skill needed to convey that in simpler terms so that more players can come forth and be competent in their performance. Martan has BOTH! If you are able to let him guide you with his suggestions for each category of playing jazz, you WILL notice a difference in a short time. I have seen so-called master classes from well known players like Chic Correa and Herbie Hancock, but they pale in comparison to Martan’s approach to helping you. I personally wouldn’t bother with anyone else, except Martan. He IS the man.
He is a teacher that has been in many aspects of the music scene for years. Most teachers are not top-flight musicians, and a lot of musicians are not superb teachers. Martan is both. Most teachers rely on other people's music books to teach. Martan writes his own books and many teachers find value in using them for their students.
He is extremely knowledgeable and very personable.
I appreciate Martan's focus on developing the fundamental skills and familiarity with the keyboard are crucial to improvising freely on the piano. He also shares many insights on how to sound better as a pianist and how to think while improvising. I've learned a lot in my past year of lessons with him and look forward to learning more.
Martan is THE best Jazz piano teacher in the South Bay area hands down. His knowledge and skills for teaching Jazz and improvisation are the best that I have come across. Whenever I have a student who wants to seriously learn Jazz piano, I refer them to him!

As a musician and teacher myself - I have found Martan to not only be an amazing teacher, but an incredible performer.
He understands what his students need and strives to accomplish their goals.
