Award winning artist Chris Bennie teaches contemporary art techniques, processes and methods for beginner, intermediate and advanced students

Chris should seen as a driving force of the electronic scene within Queensland through his own production and by far most in depth feedback received for my work to date.

Chris and I have been acquainted through a music production community. Respecting other students to the craft, Chris has provided great feedback.

Chris is one who teaches though examples after thoroughly searching through work to find the best example of what teaching he is trying to impart.

Chris will provide the best service and where other people may offer less information for a chance of return customer experience, Chris can provide you with plenty and so much that you know you can come to him for some of the most sounds advice.

Chris was my tutor in interdisciplinary sculpture during my Fine Art degree at the Queensland College of Art. His combination of critical thinking, deep knowledge of art practice and theory, and positive and personable approach made him a great tutor. He encourages an experimental way of thinking through your practice that can push you out of your normal routine, to see your work in new ways.

Chris has a gracious manner, a kind personality, is consistently generous and a is a very hard worker. As my lecturer at university and mentor since, he has shown organisation skills, thoughtful communication and that he relates well to others. Chris is extremely dependable, authentic and always willing to help.
Chris brings with him an enthusiastic attitude to teaching and the arts (in particular) and has worked exceptionally hard to leave a legacy with many of his students. He is a well-respected person whose skills lend well to leadership, mentorship and education, particularly in the arts.
I could not more highly recommend Chris to more highly for a role where sincerity, intelligence, leadership, integrity and creativity are required.

I had Chris as my tutor when I was doing my Bachelor of Fine Arts at QCA. He helped me a lot with not only the practical side of developing my series of works but also the theory. Chris was a sculpture teacher when I was undertaking studies at art college. His lessons were well structured with a good mix of theoretical and practical components that called for active student participation. As well as being an incredible studio artist and tutor, Chris has a dynamite knowledge of art history and theory. He was instrumental in my higher degree research exergises. And Chris finds ways to casually and engagingly provide this context and theoretical background while tutoring in direct art making. It's a great skill.

Chris was my teacher and lecturer in Interdisciplinary sculpture when I studied at QCA, Griffith University, Brisbane. I found Chris an excellent teacher and mentor. He was professional, insightful and has extensive experience in professional arts practice. Chris was generous in sharing his knowledge and always worked with respect and consideration with each student and their differing work practices.

Chris is well informed and active creative practitioner, with a wealth of personal experience both locally and internationally. Although Chris' teaching approach references historical and avant garde theory and practice, he won't leave your personal passion and interests behind. Chris was a tutor of mine during my Bachelors degree. I had some grief with another student surrounding my disability and Chris met with me when I confessed why I hadn't been coming to class. He didn't push for details and was very respectful and understanding. I appreciated the care he took and the extra time he gave me to catch up on the course content. The class itself was intended for first years and I had to take it towards the end of my degree due to new conditions for completion. The class was well structured and I could see how useful it would have been early in my studies. I still found the material useful as it offered a lot of insight into the art community I was about to walk out into, and provided useful tools for describing my practice. Chris got along well with all the students and there was a friendly atmosphere else-wise. I would recommend Chris on a personal and professional basis.

Chris is the one teacher that had a massive impact on me as a uni student in sculpture.
Chris has a natural ability to bring you into your creation zone, without you even realising you’re breaking through your own comfort zone.

As well as being an accomplished artist himself across multiple disciplines, Chris has fantastic skills in teaching, coaching and mentoring other artists to realise their aspirations by developing their own visions, practices and careers in the arts. I give this recommendation based on having participated as an artist in a project Chris curated at the Walls gallery on the Gold Coast, as well as having benefited from advice Chris has given me on my own arts practice as a musician.

Chris has been an amazing help to my music practice.
While getting feedback is easy, it’s only useful if it’s thoughtful, considered, actionable and has listened with empathy. Chris not only ticks all of these boxes, but I find both the breadth and depth of his knowledge to frankly be astounding.

He will never speak down to you and simplifies ideas in a way that makes you think “I’ve never considered that”. The next minute I found myself with both more ideas and passion for my craft than I had before.

As a more concrete example of where he helped me personally, he showed me that by being a little more prepared in my studio and template setup, I can be ready to roll when inspiration hits. This has significantly changed my practice.
