About Emily
I began playing trumpet in 7th grade and played through all of high school. I was the first chair in my school's concert/jazz band for my four years of high school. I have taught beginners from grades 5th to 11th.

The first step to learning any instrument is learning how to make sound, closely followed by reading music and how to change the pitch on your instrument. I like to begin by having my students play different rhythms without changing notes, so they can begin to connect their instrument with what is going on on paper. Once the student shows signs of improvement, we will add more notes and more complex rhythms. Soon enough, I hope to play full songs with them.
