About Anna

I'm an enthusiastic and experienced teacher and performer. After graduating from Leeds CoIlege of Music with a BA Hons (Jazz) First Class in 2013, I started work as a performer and tutor.
As a tutor I have taught students of all abilities; from total beginners to people taking grades to graduates of music college, as well as running workshops focussing on jazz improvisation and ensemble playing.
As a performer I've performed at innumerable venues across the UK such as Matt and Phreds, Zeferellis, Steven Joseph Theatre. I've toured Europe with bands, and performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival. And I've recorded many albums including my most recent trio “Shapeshifters” released with New Jazz Records and “MOS - Mansion of Snakes” released through Hyde Park Book Club Records.

About the lesson

I cater to each student individually, and always start our journey by working out long term aims. These could include starting jazz theory, improvisation strategies, composition, large ensemble writing. I always aim to tie in in a practical element to any theory based learning, and contextualise my lessons with real world applications.
If we are looking specifically at jazz improvisation my students can also expect to be playing with me from a very early point. I try to foster a warm encouraging environment where we feel comfortable playing together.
