About Jason
My name is Jason Brown. I was born in Toronto during the fall of 1982 to parents who met each other as students of Guru Vishnudevananda Saraswati, (who they just lovingly called “Vishnu”) during the early 70’s in Montreal while studying at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre. My own Yoga foundation started with my parents, who began practicing with me when I was six. I fondly recall as a child in the 80’s, getting up with my mom on Sunday mornings to watch and practice with Priscilla Patrick on TV in the middle of our living room. It was very important to my parents that I grew up with strong self-awareness, mindfulness, and compassion for others. Yoga has always been a part of my life, and without it, my parents never would have met.
I was raised between North York (where my father is from) and the small northern Ontario town of Penetanguishene (where my mother is from). I remember my childhood as being very dynamic. Half of my life growing up was spent in an urban melting pot that exposed me to a beautiful and seemingly endless fusion of people, cultures, and ways of living. The second half spent in a small tight-knit town surrounded by dense forest and farmlands, which would later prove fundamental in cultivating my future understanding of community, respect for the land, and introspection.
When I finished high school in 1999, I went on to graduate from the University of Toronto with my Masters Degree in Kinesiology. As an amateur Boxer throughout high school, this seemed like the right path to take at the time. However, the year following my graduation was one of intense struggle to try and find my place in a highly competitive commercial sports industry. Feeling lost and defeated, I decided to enrol at Le Cordon Bleu school of culinary arts in Ottawa. I sought to explore my creative potential and passion for food, and graduated as a Chef De Cuisine in 2008. I didn’t know at the time exactly how it would all come together, but I always knew that the ultimate destination of my career path would be a complex tapestry, seamlessly meshing together all the things I love and am the most passionate about.

I teach for the evolution of humanity's consciousness. My philosophy is that craving, aversion, and delusion within the human mind are the root causes of vast human suffering. Climate change is perhaps humanity’s greatest teacher yet about how these mental forces, when unchecked in ourselves and our institutions, cause harm to other people and the biosphere. When we come together to celebrate our love for the natural world and all of the beings that inhabit it, we reclaim our own inner stability and strength and live closer to the truth. Together, we can seek to ensure that our descendants and fellow species inherit a livable planet. Individually and collectively through my classes, we will be honoring the great legacy of Yoga to fulfill our heart’s deepest wish to serve and protect all life. I practice on the understanding that people have never needed yoga more than they do now. Never in our history have we ever been more blind and separated from each other. This artificial division has given rise to the greatest threat we have ever faced in the form of climate change. I offer my classes to answer that call to action.
